  1. I too was supposed to start in Jan 2006. I was in the evening division of the program. I just keep checking the website, http://www.dcc.edu for updates on what the plans are. There seems to be a meeting for students and this was posted on the website: STUDENT MEETINGS Dr. Thames will conduct meetings at the DCC Westbank Campus, Room 129. See the following schedule: PCN/MHN 11/1 10 AM NAC I 11/1 1:30 PM Basics/Pharm for Fall '05 11/2 10 AM Basics--January '06 class 11/2 1:30 PM Transition (LPN to RN) 11/3 10 AM Practical Nursing 11/3 1:30 PM http://www.dcc.edu/nusingupdate.htm I am assuming that Basics--January '06 class 11/2 1:30 PM is for us to attend?
  2. I dont know what your situation is now that the hurricane has passed and this was written well before, but I do know that at the time you apply for admission to Charity, you will need a grade for A&P I Lab and Lecture. Simply being enrolled in these classes when your application goes in will not be enough. They need a grade for these classes. This is how it was explained to me when I went through the application process and I know many people who were applying for a certain semester were overlooked because they were in A&P I Lab but did not have a grade in the class yet when the application went before the review committee. Good luck!
  3. I have only applied to 1 school so far and got in. It is a ADN program.
  4. From what I understand there is not a difference in pay. Those with a BSN or associates degree all take the same nurse exam to become an RN. With a BSN if might be better for you to get your masters. Some masters programs will allow you to have a BS that is non-nursing related. However some specific masters programs require you to have a BSN. I guess you need to ask yourself how far you plan on taking your education with nursing. Are you willing to go back and get your BSN after becoming an RN. Im kind of trying to figure the same thing out right now. I already have a bachelor of arts in organizational information technology. I was recently accepted in to a associates degree nursing program. I still plan on applying to a BSN program, im just weighing out the options. Then there is of course the chance I wont get into the BSN program I am applying too. Good luck!
  5. no, i am not sure of any of the details of the program but think they will be sending out information soon. I live in Kenner.
  6. :balloons: Hi! I am also doing the Spring 06 Evening program and got my acceptance letter yesterday!
  7. Awesome! Congrats! Are you in the day or evening division?
  8. I also applied to Charity for the Spring 06 semester and am waiting to find out. I plan on applying to LSU as well and would actually rather go there being I already have a degree and could be selected for their BSN care program which is accelerated. Good luck everyone!
  9. I think your application sounds good. I have heard already having a degree can help your application. Have you thought about LSU in New Orleans nursing program? Or is that the one you already applied too?
  10. http://nursing.lsuhsc.edu/AcademicPrograms/Undergraduate/BSN/BSN.html Call Tasha Torrence and make an apt. to meet with her.
  11. Has anyone taking the lecture part of Anatomy & Physiology II Online? My favorite teacher was supposed to be teaching this over the summer but I recently learned he is going to be doing an online class instead. This really worries me as I dont know how well this material can be learned online. I think there is something about being in the classroom that can help you learn, especially with this material. Has anyone taken this class online or considering it? What was your experience? What are your thoughts on learning this material over the internet instead of being in a traditional classroom?
  12. Thank you for your response. I did meet with Tasha Torrence last week about my application and other class requirements that I need to apply.
  13. A distant friend of mine had some bad news. Really good friends of theirs had been trying and trying to have a baby. After 3 miscarriages they finally got and stayed pregnant and had a little girl 3 weeks ago, but very premature and weighed less then 3lbs. Yesterday the baby's brain started hemorraging. I dont know the details at all, but wanted to email my friend as he is devasted and is really close to this couple. Thanks.
  14. About 6 or 7 years ago i had a job in a dental office and watched the dentist give a patient a shot in the mouth. I got hot and sweaty and I did pass out. Now I want to go into nursing more then ever. it was always my dream but ever since that one experience I thought I couldn't do it. Im glad to hear so many others have similar feelings and I hope I can just get over it. I think now I am more afraid of passing out again then seeing needles and shots.
  15. I first took general Bio in 97 and nothing since. Then last fall semester I went right into A&P and got an A in lecture. I took the lab this spring and also got an A. I start A&P II this summer. I studied my butt off though. I really suggest finding a way to study that works best for you. Like the above poster I also suggest repetition. Personally for me, writing and rewriting my notes helped. I also wrote note cards and made up my own possible exam questions in my note cards. Then I would quiz myself. For learning the cells, bones and muscles I did google searches for "images" and studied those pictures. This was especially helpful for the cells because there are lots of pictures of great slides on the web. I did the same thing for the bones. I also would keep writing and reviewing my notes until I could almost write my notes without copying. It worked for me. I know some people that read over their notes again and again, but that never worked for me. For some reason writing it helped me memorize everything more easily.
