I had a job interview last week at another ED within my hospital's system. To make a long story as short as possible, the reason for my interest in leaving is that our hosp has been flexing us like CRAZY. I was taken off of weekends for a few weeks because I agreed to be flexible during this hard time. Im flexible but Im losing my weekend diff! That adds up! We leave early, we get called in 2-4 hours later after out shift....getting bad.
I LOVE where I work and I never saw myself leaving anytime soon. But its a small hospital and I think they are struggling. 2 managers just quit if that tells you anything. Right now I'm not sure whose in charge for sure. Its so sad I dont want to leave but at the same time I need stability. They offer more hours plus they are busier and I may see more.
Its been a really hard decision all weekend. They havent offered me the job yet officially but I think they will. The only downside to the new job is that it's 30 miles away...ugggg. So confused and torn....
Ive made so many good friends!

Curious....have you told the administration at your hospital of your issues and that you have interviewed for another job. If they knew that you didn't want to leave and like it there but are only leaving due to the hours they may do something to make you stay. My friend was having problems doing like 5 jobs in the ED as the peds ED manager, the head peds NP, the SANE coordinator, the staff education person.....drowning and she didn't say anything, just gave notice. Before her last day the hospital DON called her to her office as she had jsut gotten word of this nurse leaving. She ended up getting to dump some stuff off her plate and make the job do-able again and the DON was willingto let her as she didn't want to lose her. So maybe if you talk to the someone up high they can help--maybe you could step up to the manager position. 30 miles is a long drive, especially after a long and/or late shift. Just a thought. If they don't want to lose you they may make some changes.
Yes I did talk to the temporary manager and she did offer me some hours at the downtown facility which is closer to me, however, it is not the best place to work. Ive heard bad things from former employees. I dont know- I keep going back and forth and time is running out I don't know what to do...
