Hello all, I recently began the nursing program Spring '18. I had many personal obstacles before starting the program however I was able to begin and was very successful in my opinion. Unfortunately I did not meet the percentage required to continue on through the program. It was very hard to deal with as I worked so hard, made many adjustments and was off by .64%. I am very fortunate as I have been given an opportunity to repeat this coming semester. There are many things I want to improve. My goal this summer is to strengthen all of my weak areas and become more self aware of other things I can adjust to ensure my success. So far I have acknowledged I need help with deciding where to focus my study, there is heavy reading in nursing school and I find it hard to decide what to prioritize. My biggest concern are the alternate style questions specifically "select all that apply" where do I start?? What is the best way to prepare for these questions? Any other helpful tips for success would be great. Thank You for reading.

I'm a huge believer in understanding the big picture. Scanning PowerPoints and memorizing facts just doesn't do it for me. I didn't always know the right test answers, but I often had enough understanding to guess correctly.

I'm was never a big note taker, either. People who scribble ferociously in class really aren't paying attention and thinking about what's being said. My advice is to listen, read, and think. Anything else should be an addition as opposed to a substitution.

Understanding your learning style will help too. I made flash cards, talked aloud, drew out picture and made the most colourful notes possible, made stories to understand how things work and dance around the on while talking out concepts. I taught my husband almost everything I learned. And I agree with the previous poster. I generally wasn't trying to memorize facts but understand why and how things worked (although there is an unfortunate amount of fact memorization still required). I made all my flash cards with brains ape and love it for the ease of making customize cards, and their quizzing method which allowed you to rate how confident you feel you had mastered that card, which increased or decreased the frequency you were asked

For Sata questions, treat each statement as a true or false question. Hopefully with your increased understanding of concepts will make it easier to logic your way through questions
