Advice for an RN Wannabe?

Hello everyone!

I've been working hard the past two years to get all of my general education classes done so I would be an "attractive" candidate for a nursing program. The programs are so competitive around here (MA/NH) so I applied to 5 schools!

I just received a letter from one of the schools requesting an interview. I'm really nervous. I was hoping for some words of wisdom from those that have already gone through this process. What should I wear? What questions do you think they would ask me? Any advice would be so appreciated.

I also wanted to add that I really admire all of you RN's out there. I can't even believe how much work it takes to become a nurse!!

During my interview, there were the standard questions of what are your strengths and weaknesses etc---what you would expect from a standard interview. Who did I admire and why. How would my family support me during nursing school. Why I wanted to be a nurse. I wore something dressy that I would wear to church. All of the nursing teachers were there to interview me and each of them had several questions.

I was accepted, but at graduation, one of my favorite teachers gave me a big hug and told me that I almost didn't get in and she had voted "no" because she didn't think I could handle the pressure and stick with it. She was letting me know that she was glad that I did get in and was really proud of me. All of the teachers at the beginning of school had decided that I was the most likely student to drop out or fail. I passed with honors and had the second highest grades. Just goes to show the interview isn't fool proof.

There are only so many seats in nursing programs. They have to make sure that those seats go to students that will stay with the program and make great nurses. You just go there and convince them you are the one.
