Advice re: using CNA license before it expires

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

hi everyone.

Thanks for reading this.

I am currently forging ahead to get my LPN and should be starting on March 30th.

I got my CNA in June 2007 and yikes...need to have 1 paycheck as a CNA or I will

lose my license. I have done volunteer work in Neuro Psych at Emory but

I did not get paid for that.

Any advice on a first job where I can only work very, very sporadically because

I will be in school full time and also have LPN clinicals.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and ideas.

smiles,

Tracy

You could get a per diem job. Although they usually make you work a certain number of shifts per month, I don't think it's very much, and you could tell them you're only available on weekends or every other weekend.

Yes, look for a PRN position. I work with a few people who only work a couple of times a month.

Go to a LTC facility and tell them you are only available for, say, Friday or Saturday, night shift or one of the other weekend shifts. There are a lot of calloffs on the weekends, especially on Friday night, so they should have no problem hiring you for the weekend shifts. If they try to insist on hiring you full time make sure they realize that nursing school is your first priority now.
