Hey thanks for the postings. I went back to work yesterday and it was very awkward. However, after speaking with a previous intern, I realized it may be my experience with my preceptor that is making me hate the job. I spoke with the nurse manager, and she said to think about whether or not I want to stay in the job. The meeting we have scheduled is for Monday and the more I think about it, the more I want to give it another chance with a different preceptor, because all this one does is seem to bash my skills and knowledge.
The education staff stated that there is a shortage of preceptors and I would be stuck with her. That article seems to embody what is going on. Soooo, I don't know where to go with this...........any advice?

It costs a lot to orient a new nurse. I can't believe your facility is willing to toss that away without some remedial process. Can the manager assign a new preceptor, regardless of what Education says? Have you talked to the nurse recruiter to see if there is another position elsewhere in the hospital? Have you and the manager talked about OBJECTIVE things that you perceive to be the problem, and have you suggested ways they could be improved? Just what would it take to keep you there? Answer that question and it might open up avenues for the manager to pursue. Good luck.

Yes... and if that doesn't work... try something else... I think I responded to a prior post of yours... And IMHO, I would highly consider if all is really worth what you are feeling... This profession/job isn't rocket science and it doesn't take one to know if this is the best environment for you... I am a person who is a DOER, I follow my instinct at all times and in the long run, I am happy, because I deserve to be happy too!!! No ifs, buts or supposes... Good Luck... I hope you find the guts to follow your instincts... You know the ones as a nurse that should be somewhat already there.
