Hello,
I'm a new grad RN having trouble finding work like most of the new grads I see posting on here. I was just looking for some advice on whether it might be good to take an extra class to help spruce up my resume. The Red cross offers a 6 week phlebotomy & EKG class for $800 and I thought it might be good to take to add to my resume and to learn a new skill. We weren't able to do blood draws in school so I really have no idea how and EKG reading isn't my strongest area so I wouldn't mind extra help with that. I guess I'm just asking if taking the class would make me more appealing to potential employers. Thanks!

I think that is expensive. It may help you look better, but I am not sure if it would really land you a job. I guess my point is I hate to see you pay $800 for something that you can learn on the job when you get one. I work in an LTAC and I am learning how to draw blood (still not good, but I try every shift), and I am attending an EKG class this week that is inhouse. I looked into taking extra classes myself, but I guess I am skeptical on how marketable they really make ya. If I were you and you really want to spice up your resume maybe take ACLS? I see a lot of jobs in my area that require it. I dunno. Education is never really bad thing and I guess there are options to weigh. It def. wouldn't hurt to take the class if money is not an issue for you. Good luck!
