Advice on PCT job in STL

Published

:bowingpuri live in saint charles mo. i am currently a care giver/nurse aide with a private duty company. i have a bachelors degree already (not in nursing) and i am considering going back to school for my nursing degree.

before i make such a huge financial decision i want to work in a hospital as a pct to get my feet wet in the environment. i know nurses are very different from pct's but i just want more hands on with patients before i decide about nursing school.

help with these questions:

does anyone have any advice on getting in a st. joesph's or bjc st. peters?

what is the pay like for pct's?

will they train me without any nursing classes? how should i sell myself to them?

should i call hr after i apply online?

any/all help is appreciated. :bowingpurespecially if you are a pct.:yeah:

Anyone??? I see people viewing but no replies....I need your advice.

Thanks.

Hi! So glad you asked this... I was actually looking for the same! I've stayed home for the past 11 years to raise our 5 kids. Our oldest just left for the Navy & our baby is in Kindergarten.

I want to start as a CNA or PCT also in hopes of going back to school for my nursing degree in the fall. I was interested in the CNA average pay rate as well as PCTs in STL or St. Ch. I was a clinical RMA for 5 years for an Internist/ID specialist at St. Lukes, but that was years ago! If I find out any PCT info I'll post back to you. Thnx for posting this request!

I went about this a bit backwards by starting NS and then getting a summer internship that evolved in to a PCT position.

Most hospitals have a needs for techs or patient care positions. The majority of my fellow students who work had jobs before we started school in the hospitals.

What I might suggest is first checking the hospitals' websites to see if they have positions posted. Secondly, see if they have nurse recruiters listed or an HR phone number on their sites. Call these people or take yourself down to their facility and try to talk to someone in person. Explain what you're looking for; don't take no for an answer. Keep checking back. Most positions are pretty flexible schedule wise and are terrific for once you start school by working with your schedules.

I wish you the best!!!
