ADVICE - NYU vs Hunter Primary Care NP

Hi everyone!

I would just like some feedback - I am accepted to both Hunter and NYU for their Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program. Cost aside, I am having difficulty deciding which program to accept. I am aware that people in New York know what a great NP program Hunter is, however, after graduation i plan to move out of state. As far as getting a job and patients deciding to come under my care, is NYU a better choice due to the name? Suggestions and advice would be highly appreciated!! Thank you!!

I know that in my dealings with NPs as a patient that the school they attended was the farthest thing from my mind. My concern was with the care they provided and the intelligence that they came with. Go with the school who gives the best educational experience and that is within your budget. Even when I go to MDs, I'm not looking a their wall to see what school they attended. I care about how good a doctor he/she is!

Now on the other hand, some employers may care about what school you attended. I'm originally from NYC and I know Hunter has always been equated with Nursing. However, people outside NYC know the NYU name. That may play a factor in the hiring process or it very well may NOT.

Go with your gut and where your heart (and brain, why not) may lead you

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Hey there ! I am also in the same boat - I got accepted to both schools and am trying to figure out which one to attend. NYU has a longer program and more classes that some may consider 'fluff' such as population health, care of geriatric patient, etc. A colleague of mine that went to nyu said that his clinical rotations he was working with students from hunter side by side.
