Advice for a New Grad

Published

I just graduated from nursing school and have been offered an RN position in MSICU in July. I am estatic about this offer because I have such a love and passion for ICU nursing. This being said, I'm getting nervous because I know that I have so much more to learn! I've already done things like ACLS and critical care conferences to prepare myself, but I guess my question is... What else should I be doing in the month I have before I start work?? To all of you ICU RNs out there, what do you think are the most helpful things to do before starting in July?

congrats! remember to have a soft heart and a thick skin. It's like being on Amierican Idol.. do what you love, stay true to yourself and all the harsh comments that come your way~ well just try to keep learning and improving your skills. Every Sr. nurse was once a new grad too and made many errors along the way, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Although it's a little late to post this, always double and triple check your meds. ICU pts have many drugs on pumps. Need to make sure the right pump is going at the right rate
