Advice needed

Hi all

I know for sure that I want to pursue nursing, but here is the dilema .

I applied to a school in nyc that has a school of nursing and a school of arts of science. I applied to the school of arts of science knowing that I wouldnt get into the school of nursing because I lack certain prequisites courses , such as microbio , statistics, dev psych , chemistry and a couple of other liberal arts classes . I am currently taking a&p I&II this summer.

The school told me that they wanted me to complete 12 credits in history , philosophy, pyschology etc, just to bring up my gpa ,and then they will accept me for admissions , becuase I made some unwise descions about taking certain classes that I ended up withdrawing from so that drop my gpa serverly. I already have my A.A.S degree in health administration .

My original plan was to take those 12 credits over the summer and transfer it over to the school and begin classes in the fall 06 semester majoring in pre health or biology knowing that I want to pursue nursing. I just figured if I get into the school in one of these major then I could complete courses realated to the nursing program because the required courses for pre health is the same for nursing . Its a private school about 10000 a semester , but I was also thinking maybe I should just take the classes I need for entry into the nursing program at a local cc for much less money even though I will be paying for these classes if I decided to take the prequisites at a cc as opposed to entering the private school in a different majoring , but having financial aid pay for it , and then transferring over to the nursing program .

I am sorry for the long post , I hope someone can understand my rambling . I just want to make the right descion , becuase obviously I have been making unwise descions. all opinions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Before you take any classes at a CC you need to check your university to see if they will take them in transfer. It would be a shame to take CC classes only to find out that the university doesn't consider them to be on the same level as the same class they teach and decline to take the credit in transfer. Also, when I went to university, some of my prerequisites in the college of arts were upper division classes that had no CC equivalent. My school of nursing (for my BSN) was part of the School of Arts and Sciences. Very early on, I went to a counselor at the School of Arts and Sciences who filled out a form for me that had a list of all the requirements I needed to get my bachelor's degree first and my BSN second, so I knew specifically what I could and couldn't take. My university had a couple of very specific required classes that could only be taken at the university and no where else.

My experience from all my years in various schools is that the universities offered way better learning and classroom experiences than most CC do. If you can swing it, stay in the university. I have far more memories of really outstanding professors in my university classes than I have of instructors from CC.
