I am a new LPN and need advice on working two jobs. I have received an offer to work FT, it will be 3, 12hour shifts in long term care. Now a PRN Position at another Facility has been offered to me too, also 12hr shifts and long term care. Now I don't know what to do! As a new LPN of course I want to work, but I also don't want to burn myself out! So realistically, how many hours do you think a new LPN should take on starting out? I'm definitely accepting the FT position, but can I balance both? Thanks for your opinions!

I would go with the FT position to start with. I worked LTC, I can promise you between call ins and staff turnover(which typically is high) you will have the opportunity to work more if wanted. Good luck in your career!!

A FT position with a PRN position is what most people settle into. The PRN position also gives you a back door into something if your FT position doesn't work out. 3 x12 hour shifts gives you a few days off if you want to pick up some more hours. The number of hours you decide to work is based on your own comfort. No one can say "this is what works for me, so this is what is going to work for you."

I'd also do both jobs. PRN is as needed and most likely a shift or two every month should be enough to keep your PRN status.
Thanks everyone! In the end I decided to settle into both positions. I guess I just needed someone to tell me it was ok, lol
