Dear all,
I have got my visa screen certificate and was offered a 2 year contract by John Hopkins Hospital (direct hire) back in July. After a few researches done, I found out that Baltimore (where the hospital located) is not a very safe place to live, rated as 12th most dangerous city in US, so I put the offer on hold even though I was happy with the offer. I'm terrified of gun and any kind of crimes and I do not want to raise my child in that kind environment. Almost half an year gone, I still haven't found a ideal place to go, just wonder if I should take the offer before it is expired in a month time. Anybody is working or ever worked in JHH/Baltimore out here? What's your experience? Is it really that bad? What would you do if you were in my situation? Any advices and suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks a million
Gemma

Are you looking for one particular state or not bothered. Many hospitals at the moment are not recruiting foreign nurses due to retrogression. I think you will find many places in the US have the risks you are worried about
Thanks for the reply!
I was looking for one particular state but not now. It's just not possible with retrogression. I would like to go somewhere along the east or west coast, where is not too cold or hot. I knew many places in US are not as safe as UK, but some places are better than others. Of course, I want to avoid the bad one if all possible.

There is no requirement that you live down the block from the hospital.
If you look at Washington DC, everyone thinks that it is relatively safe, but two blocks from the White House and things are quite bad. You are going to find good areas and bad areas no matter which state and city that you go to. Everyone that you think is wonderful, also has a dark side to it.
There are things that you can do to keep yourself safe if you take the position there. The hospital has a fantastic reputation, that is for sure.
