Advice on CSULB Nursing Program vs. Sac State Nursing Program

Published

Hey everyone,

Any thoughts on either CSU Long Beach's entry-level BSN and/or CSU Sacramento's entry-level BSN?

I am currently applying to both programs and I have a competitive application. Also, I currently live with my boyfriend about 30 minutes south of CSULB, but I also have some family near Sacramento. I know Sac State's program is 4 semesters long versus CSULB which is 6 semesters. It's great that Sac State's program is shorter for financial reasons, but it also means I will have to be far away from my boyfriend (of 4 years) so I am not too sure if I am completely sold on going to Sac State if I get in. It's quite the emotional dilemma. Any suggestions as far as things I should consider or positive/negative experiences with either program that may help me decide where to go should I end up getting into both programs?

Any input is appreciated :thankya:

Yeah my score was 87.3 which is in the average range for CSUS students so there is room for improvement but I did only study a few days before the test. I had the ATI testing materials and online practice tests and they were very helpful. I think more time spent studying would improve my score. :) I Do like your study suggestions, sounds like you've got some great time management strategies under your belt.

94.7??!?!? Great score! I wish I put more effort and time into that test! I took it twice and did ok. I got like an 84% overall but I scored really good in math and science but really bad in reading and english. Meh oh well. Its over now. Make sure to see if CSUS allows a certain number of repeats. Like CSULA has a max of two tries while CSULB and CSUSB is unlimited. If I was making bank I would have taken it a few more times but meh oh well. Your score is great. But if you really want to improve it, go for it!

Wow 94.7! I got a 88.7% and took it 3 times. SO glad I am done with that test. I also did well in math and science and worse in reading and English. CSUS allows you to take it 3 times within a 5-year period preceding the Supplemental application deadline. It's nice that CSUS looks at your overall score and gives you points according to that, even a 5% increase will get you 9-10 extra points. I don't like that CSULA looks at your english and reading percentile, to me math and science are more important but what's done is done :)

CSUS allows the highest of 3 taken within 5 years

ETA: oops just realized you touched on that spiffyness but.... I concur... heh

I was pretty excited about my science scores. I got 100% of the 11 AP questions and did well on math too. The most embarrassing part was my poor grades in the English section in the back I think it was 74 overall :-/. I do think they uses some pretty obscure stuff in there though or maybe its just me and I just need to brush up on my grammar.

You got in the 70s! I psst I wish! i got like 60 something! oh well

Not like I will using that crap anyway!

The grammar section was definitely one of the sections that I spent the most time studying. Seriously, why do we need to know the difference between a simple sentence and a complex sentence. Last time I checked nurses don't teach 3rd grade grammar that won't matter for the rest of your life lol.

Ha ha ha I said the same thing! I think we have to read the doctors orders and go "hmm I wonder why he used a complex sentence to tell me that patient needs Tylenol?"

I do charting at my workplace and have to admit that all I bother with are periods. I know most docs and RN notes are ALL in caps at the ER and use only periods and incomplete sentences are rampant...LOL How's THAT for proper usage of English? They would fail the TEAS english too based on what I've seen.

I chart my stuff in all CAPS too. It is just easier I think. Most sentences from RNs are straight forward and short and in pieces. Or sometimes run-on.

Is ATI trying to tell us something!?
