Advice for Canadian RN Exam

Hi, I have a quick question for those of you who are currently studying for the RN exam in June in Toronto.

Do you know of any prep classes? Or study groups available.?

Any advice as to how to study for the RN exam would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone-

I also wrote my RN exam on Wed.....and i was sick after!

It was hard and not at all what I was told it would be like!

The prep guide helped me with the format of the questions! I expected there to be med-surg as the bulk of the questions but I was mistaken. Peds,maternity and alot of sexual abuse! Gosh it was awful!! But now is the hard part waiting for the results! Good luck to you who have to write-MEd surg and OBS books are the best bet for studying!1

I won't be writing mine till Jan, but.....

We just had a presentation on it....

Apparently the content varies quite a bit from exam to exam. From someone that recently wrote the exam apparently Mosby's Review was really helpful.

Hi there, just read you message, you mentioned Mosby's Guide. Any idea what the full tiltle of this book/guide is and how I can get my hands on a copy. I'm studing for the CRNE but because I'm in England I don't have access to tutorials or prep talks etc. At the moment I'm using the CRNE Prep Guide which is useful but if you could suggest any other material to help in prep I'd appreciate it.

hello there, i've just joined allnurses.com and read your message. i've just started studying for the crne and would really appreciate opportunity to exchange opinions/ideas regarding the exam. i'm presently working in the uk but hope to nurse in british columbia (vancouver) soon.

i think you said that you are due to take the exam in june 2005, which means you like me will be sitting the new exam which incorporates 'short answer questions'. do you know of anyone that's been successful with the exam. basically, i'm just keen to gather info and ideas.

Hi how was the exam? Can you tell me what works well with you, because like you im in the same situation now. Im an RN from another country but the thing is i dont know how the CRNE exams will be like. Hopefully you can reply to my message. It will be such a great help. Thanks so much! :)

May I ask you again what book specifically and How about the short answer questions? Is it hard. You think CRNE prep guide and Mosby Comprehensive review of Canadian Nursing is enough. Please bear with me, my anxiety increases as the exam date is approaching. Thanks again!

I took the CRNE in June. I felt sick after writing the 8 hour exam but at the end, I passed. I think it is a must to purchase the latest CRNE prep guide. I only studied from the guide a week before the exam and the book really helped me. Topics you should read up about for sure includes: cardiac/ respiriatory emergency, peds, maternity, diabetes, asthma, copd, MI. I went over a couple questions from the mosby's comprehensive prep guide too but it was more then what is required for the CRNE exam. I believe the crne prep guide is sufficant enough to give you an idea of the sort of questions and answers the examiner is looking for. Good luck to all those taking the exam soon but I don't think you would need that because all you will do GREAT!! You guys didn't graduate from nursing school by fluke.

I took the CRNE in June. I have been an RN in the states for years but my experience has been neonates most of that time. I was distressed that I had to take the exam after being out of school low these many years. I signed up with the certinurse.ca for their on line tutoring program and of course the Canadian Nurse Prep Guide 2005. I have to admit I over studied. I was fixated on the 12 cranial nerves and there wasn't even ONE question related to that (hee hee).

If you are in nursing school and you study the prep guide you should not have any problems passing. It was quite different than the NCLEX. More therapuetic communication and problem solving. The short answers were not that bad either, there was more than one correct answer, usually.

Anyways good luck and go for it! (I passed by the way ;) )
