Advanced Practice Nursing

Specialties Ob/Gyn

I've been working at a civilan hospital as well as my navy job, and I have a concern. Some of the midwives at the civilan hospital treat the L&D staff nurses badly. One midwife said she is like a doctor. Some of the others degrade the staff nurses at the bedside. I over heard a midwife tell a new CNM, who is still working as a staff nurse to stop acting like a nurse because she is better than that.

I was under the impression that advanced practice nursing was to promote nursing. Some of the nurses I work with to include myself wanted to become APN"s, but if this is what I must share my lifes work with- I rather not.

Is this the attitude APN's have?

I am not an APN (CNM) yet, but I am appalled! A CNM is a NURSE midwife. DUH!!! She is in a similar position as the doctor but she IS NOT a doctor. If she were she would be called "Doctor". How awful that the nurses are subjected to her mistreatment and poor professional behavior. She's giving the profession a bad rep and shame on her. I guess some people just can't be human and humane. :(

too bad. Theres always someone out there on a power trip. She was probably a Bi*ch when she was in high school, one when she was in nursing school, one when she was a nurse, and now one as a midwife.

The good thing is that she is the exception and there are few out there like her.

She may be the care provider but she really hasn't done anything that extraordinary. I had a much harder time getting a BSN degree, The masters is comming along much easier. We can all do it.
