I am enrolling in an Online Advanced Pathophysiology course next spring and have found 2 differnt ones. Any advice on which one might be better? Both are graduate level 600 courses, one is offered through the science department and one through the nursing department. The only difference I can see is that the one offered through the ND would be some theory thrown in. "Imagine that!" As well as one is more scientific and the other is more treatment. I am leaning toward the Life Sciences one, but.....any advice would be appreciated.
Here are the course descriptions.
Pathophysiology and Nursing Practice: Provides a comprehensive scientific background and understanding of pathophysiology as it relates to client assessment across the lifespan in a variety of health-care settings. Forms the basis for advanced nursing practice.
Advanced Pathophysiology, Life Sciences: This course builds on a basic understanding of pathophysiology, providing in-depth understanding of adaptation and alteration on cellular function, biorhythms, cardiovascular system, pulmonary system, neruroendocrine system, immune system, and musculoskeletal system. Alterations due to internal/external stressors and aging will be identified.
Thanks!

No question about it, take the life sciences one. There will be just one health care setting - the OR (well also a few others but you know what i mean). Don't get distracted by that client assessment across the lifespan crap. anesthesia is about hard science mostly not culturally sensitivity.

I agree. Any head start you can get on action potentials, cell functions, etc..., the better off you'll be. And not get totally BLINDSIDED by the action potential concept. I just THOUGHT I understood depolarization/repolarization before anesthesia school.

I agree...Life Science sounds like a much better option.

Do you have a syllabus of your advanced pathophys class? I was looking to take that, but it's not being offered at my local university, so I'm taking biochem and human phys.

What is the school that is offering the online Life Science Adv Physiology course? I, too, am interested in taking this course next semester, along with biochemistry from the local University, but am having trouble locating an online course.

Are online courses accepted as legitimate? I mean do they carry the same weight as sit-in-class courses when it comes to admissions? Just curious.
Hawaii: I have not found an Advanced Physiology course online, but I did find a Graduate level Advanced Pathophysiology class from Indiana State universtiy. They said you can register as an unclassified student for up to 9 hours, and also ask for a waiver of out of state tuition and it is usually granted for Online courses.
De Pa: I am not sure who accepts what as far as online courses. I live in a rural area dn have 2 small children so online is my only option for Graduate Classes for now. I do know that that there are a great many online NP programs. I was going to do ACNP online through Southern Indiana State, but decided to go to CRNA school sooner rather than later. 2 of the programs I am applying to have an Advanced Patho Class in their curriculum, but I do not know if this will count or not. I am doing it for myself as well as to show I can do graduate level study. The tests are Proctered, and you still turn in assignments etc. So I don't see why it would not be considered a legitimate class. Online is still new though so who knows.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I am going to take the Life Sciences version. I am sure I will get enough Theory in later study!!! :)

Many CRNA schools have online courses for the core classes such as advance patho. My school is one of them. Online courses from an accredited institution is usually acceptable.
