Advanced Pathophysiology

Published

I want to take Advanced Pathophysiology (master level) online, if you took this class already could you please tell me where, and how was the class overall?

Thank you

I took path, not online though. My class was TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH. I usually excell in science classes, but our class was tougher that the pharm class I took.

Specializes in ICU/Telemetry/Med-Surg/Case Mgmt.

I took it on-line at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (http://www.uams.edu) and it was well organized and very do-able.

Good luck!

Karen

Specializes in Cardiac, Pulmonary, Anesthesia.

UAB has an online adv. patho. Difficult, but if it's the only class you are taking you'll be fine.

I took the class online at SLU last spring. I wish I had more time to spend reading and less time doing 'concept maps' as group projects. Other than that, I really loved it ... but I am a bit of a nerd, too.

I took adv patho at UAB and it is extremely difficult. If you are going to take it through UAB, take this course BY ITSELF. Word is that Delta State has adv patho class that is not quite as difficult.

Specializes in CriticalCare.

I am assuming this is the uab site?:

http://www.uab.edu/nursing/student-information/acad-prog/non-degree-options/post-bsn-non-degree-option

does anybody know what text they used?

cost?

available to anyone from any state?

Any suggestions for a text on 'regular' pathophysiology before taking this advanced course?

I couldnt find a direct link to the course at the other school, only this"

http://nursing.uams.edu/Masters-LS/adultnp-mnsc.asp

same questions apply, however.

thanks, in advance

NURS 6243 Advanced Pathophysiology

Their web site (under FAQs) say that they let students take graduate courses as a non-degree seeking students.

We call Adv Patho, NUR 612 at UAB, the "beast". They use Huether/McCance lastest edition. it is do-able, I took with Issues during the summer and almost made an "A" in the class.

You can find the answers, each test lets you have about 90 seconds per question. 60 seconds to understand, 30 to possibly find somewhere in the book. I rented it online, which is searchable. I also had a friends older version, who had cut out the index, tabbed it up, and placed in a folder for quick looks ups. Now all this is for online only, I do not know if they offer it via "brick n mortar" style anymore.

I also just finished up NUR 614 with an "A" in that class, thanks to the patho, next is 613 pharm.

SCJME (St Joseph's College of Maine) has Advanced Pathophysiology (NP603) online and is self-paced over 15 weeks.

This is probable the single best indictment of online NP education that I have seen. I'm not singling you out by any means. As a matter of fact, if your school actually describes the tests in this manner, good for them, at least they are being honest.

Graduate level clinical education based on an "open book" system is a sad, sad thing. I've heard of schools where the testing is much stricter (going to a proctored testing center, web cams on while testing, et. al), but I think the method above is closer to the norm.
