Advanced Nursing Careers without going back to school?

Published

Trying to advance my career and basically my salary. I'm not into the NP route, its just not something I think I'd enjoy doing.

I still really enjoy bedside nursing so I will be here for awhile but trying to figure out what advance nursing jobs are out there BESIDES NP. I know there's management and informatics etc. which I'm fine with going back and getting a degree for but still not 100% sold on the actual job. I did do some research and it seems informatics isn't much of a pay increase. I'm only going back to school if the money is going to be worth my time but truthfully now for the time being I enjoy my job and being bedside.

Advice? Thoughts? Thanks!

If you enjoy your bedside role- PLEASE stay there! It's a rare thing anymore. We desperately need experienced bedside nurses.

I hate this whole idea that in order to 'advance' you MUST assume an advanced practice role. You can remain at bedside and become an expert in bedside care- because that is sorely lacking in many practice environments these days. And honestly- there's a lot to be said for liking your job.

I am 100% NOT against APRN roles- far from it. So don't @ me some of you ?

This ^.  Get your certifications. There are so many out there and some of them come with employer benefits.
