Adoption Agencies

Hey fellow nurses,

I have a strong passion lately in working with adoptive/birth families. Locally we have a wonderful agency and as crazy as this sounds I contacted them with potentially using my nursing knowledge and wrapping it into their practice. I have worked L&D for approx 5 yrs now. My questions to everyone is have you ever heard of a job description with a adoption firm?? I just feel like it could be so helpful to both sides. To be both pt's advocates during the time.:nurse: The firm I contacted wanted additional info and I don't know how to express to them what I am looking for in a position. I just know that in my head it would be a perfect job I just need assistance in finding out if this type of position has ever been created! Please let me know what you all do in yor states. Thank you!

What a terrific idea! Especially in an advocate role!

Here's a weblink for agencies in Oregon. I kinda poked around a bit, I found one that had an "employment" button at the very very bottom of their website, but nothing about nursing, just social worker type stuff.

However, what about contracting with agencies in your state to provide a service? Or accompanying families who go to pick up their little ones from overseas, etc. ?

Here's the Oregon link: www.oregonadoptionagencies.org , then click on "member agencies" and you will see a page of agencies and their website and contact links.

Best wishes! :yeah:

Don't forget about overseas adoptions. My brother in law and his wife adopted 2 babies from Russia. She learned everything she could about infant development before she went over the first time and she had a hard time finding good resource material written in layman's terms.Help from someone like you would have been invaluable.

I think you may have found your niche. You should be an independant consultant.I can imagine there are wealthy people that would even pay you to accompany them overseas.

Good Luck
