ADN students with previous bachelor's?

Are there any students here with previous bachelor's degrees who are getting an ADN instead of a BSN (accelerated or otherwise)?

I received my bachelor's in Liberal Studies in 1999 and my elementary school teaching credential in 2000. I am now about to begin semester 3 of 4 at my local CC. It was the cheapest way to go...as a matter of fact, between my grant from the CC that pays all fees and all the scholarships that are available for nursing, it is free (besides childcare)!

I will work for a while and then go on to the RN-BSN program at Cal State San Marcos...it doesn't take too many upper division nursing courses to obtain the degree. I will decide at a later time if I want to do the MSN.

I'd say at least 1/3 of my class already have 4-year degrees.

Same for me. I'm getting a need-based fee waiver and scholarships for the rest. If I'd gone to the local private college for an Accelerated BSN, it would have cost me over $60,000 -- and they didn't have aid for second degree students. I kind of wish I was gettinig a BSN (the ADN seems as much work -- but maybe I'm wrong), but what can you do.

Wow! I'm glad I'm not the only one out there in this kind of situation. I got my BS in Social Science/Psychology in '04, that got me a year of working for my grandparents while saving up my money to go to Nursing school. I'll begin semester 4 of 5 on Tuesday! :w00t:

I got my BA in political science and sociology in '92 and am starting an ADN program in January '07. From what I have been told, I'll only have to take one leadership course after that to be able to go directly to MSN (I did take a couple of extra classes with my prereqs last year because I was considering doing an accelerated 2nd degree/BSN thing). Very happy to see so many others in the same boat! :)

BS in Management Information Systems here. I will be SO glad not to have to worry whether the servers are up, or the users' requirements were documented correctly and interpreted the right way by the developers, or sit in a CUBE from 8 - 5 Monday through Friday ever again!!

I also went the ASN route due to the cost and time invovled. I didn't think I was ready to deal with an Accelerated BSN program and also hoped to be able to do a RN - MSN one day if I ever felt really motivated to be in management. Right now, after working in corporate America the past 6 years, they couldn't pay me enough to want to do that!!

I am glad to hear what you said. I have read so many times on this site that you need a BSN to get a MSN that I was doubting my choice. When looking at schools I asked the admissions officer at the four-year college two questions that were important to me: 1) would having a BSN offer me more money and opportunities for advancement than BA and ADN and 2) would a BSN be a requirement for further nursing education. She told me, sheepishly, that the answer to both questions was "not necessarily." After hearing that I just couldn't get my head around the $60,000 bill.

My husband had a previous bachelor's degree and he went through an ADN program. He is currently enrolled in an online RN-BSN program.

Several of my classmates in the ADN program have previous bachelor's degrees. One even has a law degree. :)

I was a bio major and I have an MPH! I'm in my first semester of the ADN and will go straight to a RN-MSN program.
