ADN program student

I am going into my second semester of the ADN program. I passed my first semester, but not with the grade I wanted. Any tips or pointers from previous or current students on study techniques or organization skills?

Thanks in advance!!

1. Try to do as many NCLEX questions related to the material being studied/reviewed per day as you are comfortable doing. Always review the rationales for each answer. I found this to be the absolute most positive thing that helped me do well in RN school.

2. Limit your 3rd party study aids. I found Lippincott Q&A for the NCLEX-RN to be the best aid followed by Saunders followed by the Davis Q&A Success Series.

3. Stay disciplined and focused. Try to get the syllabus and reading list early, and make sure to plan out when to start, when things are due.

The faculty are your friends. Yes, they are. Show up in somebody office once a week to give and receive feedback on anything you don't feel completely comfortable with. Get some expert input into your studying :)

Use practice books to get into the proper test taking mindset. That is usually the issue for a lot of people is that they do not know how to take the tests.

Limit how much you work. There seems to be a correlation with grades and how much someone works.

I don't work at all besides babysitting occasionally. My hardest issue this past semester was my fiancé joined and left for the Army so it is a big life change on top of nursing school! Thank you so much for your advice. I try to do as many nclex question I can.
