after ADN plans

Published

I do not know what section to post this in. I am waiting for my acceptance letter for Nursing Program. It is an ADN program at a community college. At the information session for the program the admissions director said that a smart thing to do is get the ADN, work at a hospital that will pay or reimburse to obtain BSN. In this way, she stated, you earn experience while working on BSN part-time. I know that I want to pursue the BSN, I also must go to work right away after obtaining the ADN. Is it fairly common for hospitals to reimburse their RN's pursuing BSN? I want to push myself as far as I can go and I am ambitious. But I would like to hear from some that have worked full time as RN with ADN while pursuing their BSN on Part-time basis. How does it work? Is it online? How long will it take? Also, should I decide to pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner, does that require a PHD? Any tips, comments, and advice is appreciated!:clown:

well...

it really depends on the hospital or facility that you work at and their educational benefits... i do agree that getting your ADN before shooting for your BSN is wise.. there is not that much of a salary difference... plus you will already be a nurse while working on your BSN... and as for the NP thing... no.. it is not a PhD. it is a masters.. depending on the program.. it is usually just a year and a half or 2 years after your BSN. it is not even considered a masters in all states.. there are some PhD nurses out there.. i work with one of em.. well.. she doesn't take care of pts.. she just works in an office and runs the nursing dept... but.. no offense to any PhD nurses.. but why not just go for an MD??? i can't imagine being a nurse w/ a doctorate...... do ppl call you nurse? or doctor?.... lol.. i just call the one that works @ my hospital by her name..

i do tease her on occasion @ barbeques and call her doctor.. uhh.. nurse.. uhh...doctor...JEAN!!! luckily she gets a kick out of it.. we are like family.. i used to date her daughter when we were in high school...

either way... i wish you the best of luck.... im sure you will find happiness in your new carreer!
