ADN or BSN

Specialties CRNA

I am currently an LPN with a bachelors degree in computer science and I'm thinking about becoming a CRNA. I understand you need to be an RN (BSN or ADN depending on what school you want to attend.) To get my ADN I would only have to take four nursing classes while a BSN would take quite a few more. My question is if I go the ADN route and only have 4 nursing classes on my transcript would this be a negative with whatever CRNA school I apply to?

Specializes in SICU, CRNA.

Most CRNA schools require a BSN, not all do, but the vast majority. by going the ADN route, you are severely limiting the number of schools you can apply for.

By going ADN, you can work as an RN in an ICU setting, thus meeting that requirement while you finish your BSN (on-line or as a "non-traditional" student). If time is a factor and you can make the grades while you work, go for it. You can still get that BSN and apply to all the programs, since most (if not all) require a Bachelors in something.

Just right off hand do you know which ones will take a ADN? I'm going to look on the aana.com page right now.

Guess I should introduce myeself....I live in KY and have an AAD, ASD and am 2 weeks away from my ADN....I'm in ICU now doing clinicals and have been offered a job and am enrolled in a BSN program that I will complete May 2006...will have my 1 year of ICU experience in by then. I'm not getting any younger....so if you know of an ADN program I'd really appreciate a post.

Kind regards,

TO clarify- No program can accept an applicant without EITHER a BSN or other appropriate baccalaureate degree. So- go finish the BSN since all schools will accept that. :)
