Clincal advise for the first month?
I am about to start clinicals. Was just wondering from some other students that are in clinicals if you could answer this question (in hopes that I wont look stupid on my first day). What do you wish you would have known on your first day of clinicals? Would appreciate the advise. Please dont think anything is too simple.

Mountain State University Program Change
I've seen lots of post regarding MSU and their CRNA program. Everyone has an opinion. My best advise to anyone that is going to sink 6 figures and several years of their life into a program would be to get the facts. See the link below for actual numbers about the program. This site was required by the COA via the October 2008 visit to MSU. http://crnaprogram.mountainstate.edu/ :redbeathe:redbeathe

Mountain State University CRNA/SRNAs
Dont go to MSU. For those in the program it is hell. Not because of the studys or work...because of the actual program and chaos. See link http://crnaprogram.mountainstate.edu/

Mountain State University CRNA/SRNAs
I regret the day that I applied to Mountain State. Honestly, consider other programs. MSU has a ton of problems...and they all slide down hill to the student. You would not believe the things that are going on unless you were actually in the program. It can work, but there are some major changes that must happen. If you dont mind , studying 10 hours a day with no direction, mass confusion, totaly chaos...then go ahead and apply. Even though I am in debt and only have a few classes left to complete I have considered applying at other programs (daily). I'm not just crying---the program needs a major overhaul. Best of luck to you.

Mountain State University CRNA/SRNAs
I want to defend the comment in regards to how good can you be? This program is NOT AN ONLINE PROGRAM. You will be there more than once every 3 weeks. You must publish a thesis. You must study your butt off to make it through...and it isnt getting easier. It is getting harder. If you arent willing to travel, stay in hotels, study 10-12hrs per day, give up your life, and go into debt then dont go here. There is no easy ride in any anesthesia program. This one has lots of pros/cons. It is not a 'go to school and slide by' program. You must have balls to make it through. So for anyone that wants a life---dont go here. I am in the program and would most likely have done better in a traditional program, but that wasnt an option. Ask lots of questions before you make the decision. The program is undergoing changes as there is a new director in place and the upcoming cohort will face those changes. He has a good reputation. I am unsure of what the changes will be, however, I hope they are for the good. MSU may not keep the format presently in place, but it might.

Anesthetist programs that DON'T require ICU experience
As an ICU nurse at a level 1 trauma...it is of the utmost importance for all prospective srna's to go to ICU....You don't know how much you haven't learned until you go! You will be better prepared for CRNA school.

Help!! Looking for family friendly schools.
Have you looked into Moutain State University??? It is in Beckley WV and you can live where you are now. I understand about family friendly programs...which is why I am starting with MSU in Jan ....I was actually told in one interview that should I become preg that I could have the baby on Friday and was expected in class on Monday!!!!!!!! Get real. MSU is a new program but I have spoke with their students and it is tough...no breaks just because you don't have to move.

acceptance stigma?
I have kept my secret to myself...just because I knew there would be a big change in how my co-workers treated me....its a small fact that lots of nurses seek out ICU because they have future plans....just as I did....however, make no mistake the work is intense and hard. I started school all over when I entered the ICU...my advise to anyone with future hopes is keep it to yourself.

Whose going where?
I work at CAMC and yes they are changing their program..the word on campus is that it is going to be much longer...phD...GRE score is now 950.

Whose going where?
I actually moved here to WV so I could go to CRNA school. I am impressed with MSU's program and am willing to take a chance on the "newness" because for one they are certified by the AANA and the instructors all have long professions with tons of experience. For me it was the right school. I wanted to live in a place that I could afford...for example I couldn't afford to live in a city with a high cost of living so I did my research and here's where I am at. The interview was 4 hours long and I was told that they expect at least hrs a week from any student. Anyone that hasn't taken the GRE should do so before seeking entrance into any program. I met every qualification before I ever sent in my app. Best of luck to everyone!

eating our young?
I am not a new grad and have just entered ICU..feel like I have just started all over again. My game plan? I come home and read-read-read. Get a good but thin Critical care book and show them who is who. I have been eaten..even if I didn't give report in the same manner as the other nurses (although still good) they have turned up their nose...my view? They can go do their own assessment everyday if they don't like mine.
