ADN or BSN

Published

I'm so torn. I currently have a BA in Psychology. It's been 9 years since I've graduated. Regardless of the route I choose, I will have to complete all of my science prerequisites since I previously only took Geology and cop out science classes.

I was thinking I might as well do a BSN program since I already have a degree and most hospitals will only hire with a BSN. Is this true, though?

Now, I'm starting to second guess myself. Thinking I could work as an RN after completing my ADN and go back to school for my BSN with tuition reimbursement.

Thoughts/advice???

I guess can say have a psych degree; human service field degree work in psych. Graduated in Winter 11. Started taking online classes in the Spring. Originally was going to go the BSN route. However, the BSN schools aren't very uninformed in regards to prerequisites so have to pick one school, mostly. Second the cost. Third only need half of the prerequisites for the ADN than for the BSN.

I am taking prerequisites for 3 ADN programs. If not accepted will take another year of prerequisites. Then looking to apply to a BSN and ABSN program.

It's a route worth considering.

My advice? Tackle some of those pre-requisites before you firm up your plans. It's not unusual for people to re-think their educational goals when they hit Chemistry, Micro, A & P, Stats, etc. As for which program? Most larger metro areas are pretty far into the transition to BSN-only for acute care. There are still lots of ADN jobs in non-acute settings, but this may be a deciding factor for you.
