Do you recommend getting a BSN or remaining an ADN is it worth the time and effort or not?
Originally posted by OnemindI am so tossed between whether or not to get a BSN. I just don't know what the benefit is, or if there will be one. I wish someone would tell me what to do. I know that sounds weak, but I just can't seem to get any good advice. I suppose if the hospital re-imburses me, and if I can do it indpendently on line, in my own time frame. I'm thinking Excelsior RN-BSN. Any opinions would sure be appreciated.
Good luck in what you do. The ultimate reward for the BSN is in the future. Most of us come out of school, both BSN and ADN to the bedside, after passing the same NCLEX, which is the exam to get the RN. We all are RNs at this point, usually making the same or very similar salaries, and those salaries aren't too shabby at first. It's hard to see the reward of a BSN at this point because you're doing the same and making the same as the ADN.
However, later on when you want to explore other options with your career, after getting some hands-on nursing experience, is when you are going to notice the benefit of the BSN. I always recommend the BSN to those able to get one.
Anyone know of an RN to BSN program that you can take very very part time and totally online and never have to write papers? (A guy can dream can't he.)

The benifit for getting your BSN is ultimatley a personal one. I think just for personal growth and advancement is great. To be an effective, skillful, knowledgable RN , you must always continue your education. Whether is obtaining another degree or going to seminars on a topic of your choice. With the ever so changing of healthcare and technology, one must keep up with it.
If you plan on staying at the bedside for the rest of your career, than ADN is good for that. Remember, ADN nurses where initated as "technical " nurses. ADN's have excellent skills and are wonderful nurses as is BSN's.
So do what's best for you. Good Luck!:roll :roll
