ADN to BSN or straight BSN?

Specialties Aesthetics

Hello, hopefully someone can help me out. I'm in the Los Angeles area. I'm looking to become an Aesthetics Nurse, working in a plastic surgery office or Medical Spa. I am wondering if I should get my ADN and then go for BSN or just go straight to BSN? I'm looking into Azusa Pacific, Stanbridge, and Glendale Career College. West Coast university is extremely expensive and I haven't heard many great things about it. Any RN's working in the med spa field that can help me? Thank you in advance.

Specializes in OR, Nursing Professional Development.

Have you looked at job postings in the area? Their stated preferred or required qualifications may include degrees. That would be a good place to start.

When researching schools, are you looking at things such as nursing programaccreditation through CCNE or ACEN? Approval through the state BON? NCLEX pass rates for first time takers? Percentage of grads employed in nursing within one year of graduation? Percentage of students who complete the program?

FYI, Glendale is not showing on the search results for programs accredited by CCNE or ACEN. The other two are accredited by CCNE. If you would want to continue your education, there are sometimes issues for applicants to grad school who did not attend an accredited nursing program.

Thank you so much for your reply I haven't been looking at all those things I have no idea where to begin.

I looked at local job listings & most require a bachelor.

What is the downfall of it not being accredited by ACEN?

What is your opinion on going step by step ADN To BSN or do you think j should just go all in straight for BSN? I'm 22. So time isn't an issue, I just want to make sure money wise, I'm on a good track.

Specializes in GENERAL.

Why the confusion? No problem as far as I can see. You know what you want to do and I am assuming you're hooked up with a plastics concern in some way.

So, since you're not in school yet, take the preliminary courses on the cheap at a community college if you can and then transfer to a NOT FOR-PROFIT school to complete the BSN. This approach will afford you the best of all possible worlds in terms of cost effectiveness and credentials to make you as marketable as possible if the aesthetics thing gets old. Remember you don't ever want to be victimized by schools that are in financial straights, being sued by multiple parties and are therefore capable of shuttering in a moments notice, a la ITT tech and Corinthian and too many others.
