Hi,

Can a student who is a pain management patient, ( for legit medical issues) be accepted into a nursing program??

Why wouldn't you be?

Because the rules governing narcotics use (legit or not) can be complicated and very specific. There are facilities that will not allow an employee (and that includes students) to be 'under the effect' of any narcotic medications of any kind.

Even with a prescription, the thinking is that a person who is potentially impaired by a controlled substance should not be responsible for patient care.

OP, you might want to check with the nursing program itself, and simply pose the question. it's not a judgment being made for or against any particular medical program (ie: pain management) but it IS appropriate to find out if you will not be allowed in a clinical rotation.

Good luck!
