Admissions Advantages to Completing PreReqs at UW?

Published

I am currently working on my prerequisites in NY and will be moving to Washington State this summer, finishing my prerequisites and applying to UW bachelors program for Autumn 2019 start. Does anyone know if University of Washington gives priority to students who have completed some of their prerequisites with UW?

I will have one science prerequisite and two general education classes remaining when I move. Is there any advantage to applying as a transfer student and completing these three classes at UW with higher tuition rate than the local community college?

I don't believe UW gives priority to students who complete pre-reqs at UW as nursing is a competitive major and even students who start at UW as freshman have to separately apply to the nursing program after completing pre-reqs with no guarantee of admission. The community colleges are substantially cheaper and, in my opinion, offer a better learning environment for pre-reqs (compare taking intro to biology with 120+ students at UW vs community college with 28 students). Most of the Greater-Seattle area community colleges have solid reputations and are familiar with the admission and transfer process for students wanting to attend UW.
