ADHD nurse and Adderall

Nurses Disabilities

Published

So I just started a 1st shift PT job in LTC. I am still under training and find it very hard to concentrate. I have been off and one Adderall and Ritalin since I was 4 years old. After I was done with clinicals, I thought I could function without the meds. After being coached yesterday by the supervisor( It took me 4-5 hours to pass am meds) :( I am thinking about going on Adderall again to save my job and be the great nurse I know I can be. If I do this do i have to let my job know. If Im ADHD is this drug considered to impair judgement or is me being med free considered impaired judgement. I also do not want to be judged by my job.... Any help is very appreciated, and nurses who have this and can do it without the meds, god bless you :):):).

I too, am a new graduate with 2 months of work under my belt.. My advice TAKE THE MEDS! I can assure you that I could not function without it, I feel like I have the attention span of a fly! The more nervous I get, the more I forget and so on.. But in addition to the medication, I try to get plenty and sleep and eat well and exercise. Now, I may sound like a bad commercial but really, this ( our work) is important and at least for me, these things make me feel better and hopefully, do a better job. Good Luck to all of us!

IF your shrink asks you IF you want to go back on the meds...did you ask him WHY!

dont rely on meds...use your head! If you cope better with the meds and nurses..then you answered your own question.

you make sure your got your ass covered, when dealing with patients moving, etc.

common sense girl! Meds do not remove or take place of common sense.
