Additional pay for being in charge or precepting orientees?

Published

I apologize in advance if this has been a previous subject of debate (I looked thru the archives and didn't see anything r/t the subject. My hospital does not provide additional pay for being in charge or precepting new orientees...I think they should; some of my colleagues disagree. What do others think? Thanks in advance. MMB

$1.00 / hour for charge. Nothing for precepting.

If I were doing charge for the money, it would not be worth it. As it stands right now, I enjoy being charge (dedicated charge nurse position). There is talk about changing our ICU Charge Nurse position whereby the charge will take patients. THEN--it is really not worth it. $12 per day to deal with staffing decisions, bed assignment, do chart audits, QA, smooth ruffled physician and co-worker's feathers, AND care for patients. Nope, waaaaay not worth it. When that happens, I want to go back to being in staff.

We used to get 1.50 per hour for precepting but nothing for charge.
