Active Duty Navy Direct Accession FY 2017

Published

Greetings! I am a RN with about 1 years medsurg experience looking to apply for FY 2017 to the Navy for direct accession. Anyone else out there working on their packet or that have already submitted it? Please feel free share your experiences thus far, desired duty stations and any valuable info. Thanks!

SBSN,

Everything's gonna end up ok. The Feb. ODS class is full (per my detailer) and they're filling April right now. Whichever way it turns out, you'll have enough time to turn in your two weeks notice.

Good luck.

My job is so short staffed that I am hoping to be able to give more like an 8 week notice (our schedules are done 6 weeks out).

I was was hoping for ODS right after the first of the year, but I will take whatever I can get. í ½í¸‰

Thanks for all of the updates! Unfortunately, I allowed myself to get distracted so I am planning on having my kit completed and ready after the first of the year. I'm hoping the billet for medsurg doesn't fill up too fast. Any new news yet?

That's kind of you, worrying about your current employer :) not to worry though, your orders will cover you for when it comes time to let them know of your intent to leave.

Long time lurker, first time poster here, just wanted to say hello.

I have started the application process in hopes of joining next year. I graduate with my BSN in May 2017 and am prior enlisted. I served 5 yrs active duty and 4 years reserve as Aviation Ordnance and have deployed twice with the US navy. Once to Iraq and once on board the USS John C Stennis. From what I understand new grads are thrown into the medsurg billets which there are very few of. Any other 2017 hopefuls lurking around here?

I am a fellow 2017 hopeful! I haven't come across too many new grads looking to join straight out of nursing school. I know they prefer experience and base your rank accordingly. In the mean time, since the process often takes time, you can apply for jobs in the specialty that you would like to work in. I'm currently a medsurg/oncology nurse and I'm hoping there will be sufficient medsurg spots this FY.

The detailer or recruiter at your local office should be able to pull up a webpage that shows how many billets the navy has open for each nursing specialty. I remember when they showed me during the summer they did not have many medsurg billets compared to like crtical care ones.

With the added rank for experience I think its 2 yrs civilian exp = 1 yr towards the next paygrade. Ill be at an advantage tho as far as base pay goes due to my 9 yrs service and prior enlisted, so Ill just be a well paid ensign lol.

Unfortunately, my recruiter is out on leave until after the first of the year. I am trying to get in contact with the other recruiter who is taking over her work while she is gone. With the holidays it is hard to get a hold of anyone. I remember the excel sheet they had for the medsurg billet but that was for FY 16. Who knows, I may just have to wait until next FY which works out fine. More experience and more rank.

Are you working a night shift 2night? Lol. Yea I kind of have that attitude as well, if I dont get in right off the bat I wont be devastated Ill just keep trying.
