ACLS renewal Q

Published

My AHA ACLS cert will expire this month. Missed the only refresher class available. Figured I'd have to take the "initial" 2 day course all over again (not that that's a bad idea given the frequency of use).

Have heard there is a "grace period" of a few months on expiration to get back into the refresher course. Anyone know if this is true?

Thanks so much,

There used to be. AHA now says if you've expired you need to retake the whole thing. VAMedic4 told me about another site, I believe it's called cprassociates.

Here it is: http://www.cprassociate.com It sounds easier to deal with than aclsonline. With the second, you need to find an AHA class to test out on the skills, so you still may not get the recert done on time. With cprassociate, the only thing you need to test out on is airway management, and you can do that with your own hospital Ed dept or even the ER doc if one is willing to help. My Ed dept accepted this site because it is AHA approved.

aclsonline was very easy...not sure of any problems anyone else may have had...you get 2.5 hours to finish the online exam, and at the end, you provide a name of someone that can verify you have (or will have) completed the skill station...you can certainly do the skills station at your leisure...

and I believe it's AHA certified...

yes, it's AHA, but to do the skills at your leisure means you don't get your card until it's done. And her facility may not be able/willing to sign her off. Mine does not sign off for online classes, you have to find an AHA class and go in to test out on skills. I expired in Aug and missed my recert; if I had taken aclsonline I would have had to wait until Oct to test out on skills because not every ACLS class will do it.

not true

I received my card 3 days after I finished the online test...I supplied the name of a person who would verify that I would complete the skills in a timely manner...

And my ACLS had lapsed for 6 months...they will recert you if you had EVER had ACLS

At my facility the rules were changed recently to disallow grace periods. The reason we were given is that AHA is no longer allowing grace periods. Sorry if I'm wrong. As for when the card is received, I called aclsonline and was told that I would not receive my card until I provided proof that the skills had been proven.

I can only supply info that I was given by seemingly legit sources. I'll shut up now.

no shutting up allowed...keep talkin'

:)

unfortunately, the proof that they asked for was a name of a person who could verify...that's it...I could have lied...They asked at the end of passing the test...Could be construed as less than legit...They certainly liked the 175.00, but the hospital did cover the cost...I just emailed the e-receipt!

Thanks for the replies.

I thought it sounded too good to be true. Makes sense . . .but why make anything easy.
