ACCUPLACER scores.....?

Before you panic, I would wait and see what the college requires you to take.

I tested out of Algebra I and II and was cleared to take calculus directly, but I took it on a voluntary basis because I didn't have a working knowledge of it.

If you don't have a working knowledge of Algebra, you will find Chemistry extremely difficult (in my class, they dropped like flies) as well as any nursing Math class they have you take.

Good luck...I wouldn't stress too much about it.

I was told I needed to be in the 50th percentile on both portions in order to bypass Basic Math and Basic Algebra classes. There is no additional math/algebra requirement at my nursing school. I thought the 50th percentile was low and asked again, but she reiterated that was all I needed.

I didn't however know there was trig on it. Yikes!! I was told basic math...add, subtract. fractions, etc. and basic algebra. How many questions did you have?! I was told it was an adaptive test and there is usually about 27 total?! How about you?!

I am a pre-nursing student for an ADN. Does your school require calculus?!

The nursing program does not require Calculus...When I first started at the school a few years ago it was with the intention to get a business degree and transfer to a 4-year, so that is why I had to test to see if I could register for Calculus directly.

However, all of the BSN programs that I have looked at do require Statistics.

Our school does highly recommend a working knowledge of Algebra, and I have no idea of why it isn't required. All of the students in my nursing math class that had Algebra upteen years ago are failing out, and in my Chemistry class, 6 of them (half my class) were gone by midterm. Everyone else that had recent Algebra is still hanging on.

Thank you all for your input :-) I decided that I will just swallow my pride and take the intermed. algebra- yes, i could probably study some more and maybe barely test out of this class, but in the long run, taking short cuts now will probably only hurt me. I know I do have some defficiencies when it comes to functions and all that fun stuff.... there's probably a reason why i have to take it. its been over 8 years since i last touched a math book.

My college here requires that you "demonstrate college level math skills" or take intermediate algebra and pass it with a C or better (if you want to apply for nursing). then while in the program, any college math class is accepted as an elective, i will probably take statistics, but i dont know yet- have to get thru math98 first ;-)

As to the number of questions- i had 12 questions on elementary algebra and then 20 on college math. it seemed to me like maybe the questions itself were adaptive, but not the amount of questions that you get, because every test told me right from the start how many questions there would be.... hope this makes sense ;-)

I had to take the NLN which ended up being a blessing because I had to basically re-learn algebra, etc. all over again. I have also been using www.coolmath.com to brush up for my tests. My guess is that I will pass both given the time I have spent studying, but if I don't I am not going to be too bummed. I will then just take the class. I am going to continue to look it over as a pre-nursing student as well as I now understand how vital it is to my success. Thanks to both of you for some very useful info!!

Hello,

I am applying to 3 different LPN schools and today I had to take the first Accuplacer test in math and english comprehension. To my surprise I passed the math which I didnt think I passed.But I fail the english comprehension which I thought I had no problem hehe. Anyway I went on the accuplacer web site and took the english comprehension test and passed with flying colors , so it is so strange to see that I scored so bad. I need a 95 to pass on reading comp and96 in sentence skills which i scored a 94. So I will keep you updated if anyone is interested.
