hello everyone,
Would you please help me to answer this question why most patients when being admitted to hosp. are ordered accucheck? (not stress, not corticosteroids- high blood sugar side effects) Thank you so much.

What have you considered?
What does accuchek, well, check? Why would we care? Why would this simple screen be useful in an admitted population?

Never done routine accuchecks on patients without a clinical indication for it. We're not big fans of unnecessarily sticking children in pediatrics. Never had one done on myself either despite multiple hospitalizations.

We may do a serum glucose but I've never seen routine accuchecks on med surg patients without an indication. Even in the ER we'll do serum. Is this a specialty floor? Are you sure you're reading the question right?
