Accredited schools versus approved

Hi. This is the first time I have posted so I am not real familiar with all the rules. I graduated with a diploma from The School of Practical Nursing in 1975 that was located in Indianapolis,Indiana but no longer is there. At the time it was part of Indianapolis Public Schools and as far as I know the only Practical Nursing program in the city.When it closed down it went to Ivy Tech as part of their curriculum. I recently applied to Methodist Hospital or Clarian Health and was told by the recruiter that after checking on the school I went to that it was not an accredited school and so Methodist could not approve of it and I could not work there. I worked for Methodist in 1980 but maybe the accreditation rules were not in force then. I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. If the only Practical Nursing school in the city was not an accredited school why am I not able to work at certain places now? Thanks P.HarrisLPN:cry:

Are you licensed by the state BON? Contact the In. BON and ask them your question. If the BON lets you set for the test and you passed it, then any place that hires LPNs should let you work for them. If they question your schooling, they will tell you where to go from here. My LPN school is no longer around( having changed names and owners 2 or 3 times),but I have kept my license always current to avoid any problems. If I'm asked where I attended school, I state the name and add they are no longer around, but that I have a current license. it has never been an issue. So, contect the BON.

That was my thought also. The question is "do you have a current license?" If you do then that business about accredited vs approved is moot. If a person was permitted to take the test under state law at the time(and passed) that is all the employer needs to know.
