21 days, should have been 8 hr shifts, but you left when the paper work was done. That was between 2 jobs and 10 yrs. age. The up side, my daughter got through collage with no student loans. :yeah:The down side, Mom was a terrer.

Are you licensed by the state BON? Contact the In. BON and ask them your question. If the BON lets you set for the test and you passed it, then any place that hires LPNs should let you work for them. If they question your schooling, they will tell you where to go from here. My LPN school is no longer around( having changed names and owners 2 or 3 times),but I have kept my license always current to avoid any problems. If I'm asked where I attended school, I state the name and add they are no longer around, but that I have a current license. it has never been an issue. So, contect the BON.

Louisville Ky. has jobs. There are 10 big hospitals now,with 1 more to open this fall. 6 hospitals are part of Nortons. Look up Norton Healthcare for job info.Cost of living is not high and if you cross the Ohio river to southern In. cost of living is even lower and is only 10 minutes longer for the commute. Also look up Jewish Hospital, St. Mary and Elizabeth, Baptist Hospital. Our weather is moderate, with 4 seasons. The people are mostly friendly. There is a real small town feeling here, but Louisville is the 16th largest city in the US. Where ever you look, good luck

I don't live in your area, but I do have your dream job:D. I am 53 also, and a LPN. 15 years ago I trained to scrub in surgery in an in hospital program. The hospitals around here now only take scrubs from tech programs:o. I have only met 3 other LPNs that work in surgery. Others may work in out patient surgery centers, I don't know. If scrubing is the only life for you, the tech route may be best, but LPN has more options. Check with you area hospitals to see if they hire LPN's in surgery before you decide. Several years ago Tyson(the chicken people) was sued bacause of this and they had to pay back multi millions. Federal court told Tyson that they had to pay employees 15 minutes to dress in the a.m. and 15 minutes in the p.m.. You can check with your state labor board and withthe Federal Labor Relations Board. Good luck

In Louisville, Ky. all of our hospitals use CRNAs. I work in a hospital with 14 O.R.s, plus 2 litho suites, and we have CRNAs in all rooms until 7p.m.. We also have L & D which uses CRNAs. Even the small hospital that I work at, prn, has a CRNA with only 2 O.R.s. It differs around the country.

I garden and ride my motorcycle in the fair weather. Then I make stain glass in the winter. I also make scrub hats so that I look different from everyone else in the O.R.( Then I make them for everyone else). After work I read to help unwind and I spend all my extra time here.

If manager is still taking your calls, they aren't "sick" of you yet. If you speak with them again just ask if it is O.K. to continue checking ( since I would love the chance to work at your hospital:D). Also ask if there is a usual time frame to get through the hiring process. At one hospital I worked for it was normal to take at least 3 months! Don't give up, but have an alternate game plan, what will you do if you don't get this. You may want to apply other places as a back up. I will think good thoughts for you. Good Luck. Kathy

Years ago I told my young daughter, always wear pretty undies. That way, even if you are doing grungy things, you still feel like a girl. After nursing school and white uniforms(and white undies), I started buying undies in sets. Now even in scrubs for 12 hours, I have pretty undies, just for me, to help me feel like a girl. It is just for me, no one else(at work) will see. It helps me feel just a little sexy. Thats how I try to keep my sexy going.

I would find my self using nursing shorthand, like the "c" with the line above, when writing notes for my daughter's school. My daughter was use to me being weird, but the teachers would have to get her to translate for them. I guess it shows how hard they drilled this stuff in to our heads at nursing school.

My second job as a nurse was at The Home of the Innocents in Louisville,Ky.. We had childern from birth to 21 years old. It Is a LTC, and at that time(15 yrs. ago) there were about 30 of this type of care centers in the U.S.. A lot of our childern went to public schools, but the most medically fragile went to in house school. So there are jobs for teachers that are nurses. It was one of the best learning expirences of my life. Good luck in what ever direction your career takes you.

I am an LPN working in the OR. I applied to an ad that the hospital was training LPNs, RTs, ect... people with some medical training, to scrub. I also work at a small community hospital,PRN, and they have trained several cna to scrub. It all depends on their policy and their needs. Don't give up. Just keep your eyes open and check out the smaller OR and surgery centers. Along with cna, they may need Unit secertarys, material management, and other support people. Also check out any pain management clinics. They often have OR type settings. Good Luck and remember, go for anything that you feel will help you with experience towards the OR. It has been a good experience for me.

One year ago I put a wood chisle through 2 of my finger tips. After I cried, I talked to myself for a while, then had my DH (also a nurse) look at it, then decided I had to go to the imediate care center. I was two hours getting there. They soaked it and sutured it. No one said anything about a time frame. It may be that hospital policy, but not a policy everwhere. It could also have to do with the tpye of injury. I hope your son heals well.

I'm with you. I just wait and hope all is clarified in the next reply. Be the way, I learned on another forum a wife is SWMBO ( she who must be obeyed). Somehow I think DW would be better.
