  1. Hello, I was recently accepted to a LPN program in Indiana that would start in August and then my husband got his "dream job" in California. sighhh doesn't it just figure. I was lucky to get into this program, My test score was so so...I'm 50..not great in Math, but I think I sold them in the interview and was selected for the program. Now I had to tell them no thanks. :cry:We are moving to the Lancaster Area (Edwards AFB) and I have looked at the Joseph School of nursing, but would also like to consider a 2 year RN program somewhere, is anyone has any advice. I know NOTHING of the area, we are not even there yet. Any advice from those who know, would be greatly apprciated! Also..how does LVN and LPN work...if I become an LVN and then move back to INdiana eventually, do I become an LPN automatically? Just wondering. Thanks for any advice! I hope I like it there! :)
  2. HI all, I live near Kokomo and was just accepted into the LPN school at Marion. I'm trying to decide if I want to do this at my stage of life. (53). Nursing is something I've always wanted to do. Anyone out there from or around Kokomo? what are the starting wages for LPN's in the Kokomo/Indy area? Anyone know? I"m really interested in getting into a clinic that does surgery and getting trained in that area. But I realize I will probably have to start out in LTC to get more experience before I move around. Any info is greatly apprecaited! I"m trying to decide if I want to do this or if I want to go to the Clarion Surgical Tech Program that takes about the same amount of time, gets me into the surgical field alot quicker. Thanks!
  3. thanks 2ndcareerchange. I take it you've been there and changed careers too? Hope it was a good move for you and hopefully, if it's supposed to be, it will happen and be a good move for me. :) thanks again. :)
  4. I know in the central Indiana area there is only one program that has night classes and that's the LPN program at the Logansport Ivy Tech. They also have a part time LPN program. But they change from evening to days every other year, if I remember correctly, so if it's nights this year, it will be a day time program next year. It's the only one I've found in this state. Other states have great alternatives to a days only program, not here. I do not know of any evening RN programs , at least not in this area. Good luck! I know how frustrating this is. :banghead:I"m right at that wall with you.haha
  5. I just passed the NET, dispite having NO math skills.:yeah:Now on 3 Feb I go in for an interview at the LPN school I'm trying to get into. Anyone have any advice on what they are looking for when looking for that perfect student? I"m 52...have been in the military for many years and am retiring. I'm looking for my new career and that's what I will tell them, but didnt' know if anyone had any tips. Any advice is apprciated!
  6. ONe more program I forgot to meantion (in case your in Washington State) is the ROAN program in Washington. Again, it's coursework on line, clinicals at area hospitals. GOOD LUCK!
  7. HOpe the info does help. When your googeling looking for programs, try searching for "Hybrid" programs, or "weekend Option programs" that's how I started coming up with stuff. I seriously considered doing the "online minnosota" program.(just put online Minnosota in the search) They seem very helpful and are trying to get their program up and going. but I would have to fly to minnosota like 12 times in a year, for a week at a time. No can do, too expensive. Good luck to you!
  8. Miwila, There are actually a few on line to become LPN programs that I"ve found. (unfortunatly, not in my state or even in my area) Minnesota online has a program where you do your schooling on line, then go there for clinicals. Arizona has a program at Marcopia (??I think it was) a tech school where you do your classwork on line, then every weekend for a year are spent doing clinicals. New Jersery Ocean college has a "one day a week" LPN program. You do your school work on line, then one day a week is spent on clinicals(for 18 months I think it was). A school in Tifton Georgia (can't think of the name of the college) has a one day a week program also ANNND Chamberland college in Ohio has a on line class to become an LPN program, clinicals one day a week and on weekends. That's the only program near me (I'm in Indiana) but they stipulate you have to be a Ohio resident and clinicals are done at their area hospitals. Hope some of that helps. I have done ALOT of research to find these schools. Everyone always says, Oh no! it's not possible. But it is...it's actually a Hybrid program...school work done on line, but hands on learning in the clinicals. I see nothing wrong with that. Wish I could benefit from one of these schools...I work full time days...there's no way in Indiana to go to LPN school. NO part time programs, no evening programs even.
  9. Thanks to all who took the time to give me their input. Opinions are definatly running towards LPN over the Tech. When I read that many LPNS can work in surgery I was suprised, then yesterday I looked in the sunday paper and there was an ad for an LPN/MA to work in a surgery center, will train! INTRESTING! I would not have noticed that ad if not for you guys and your input. Also, Liz, I had the same problem. The surgical tech program I could get into was over an hour away. The LPN program is 25 minutes and that worried me a great deal. Great input, I thank you all! YOu gave me some insight and I"m now leaning towards the LPN program (as long as I can get in!) Before I was definatly leaning towards the Tech program and my husband and I were discussing the long drive, the miles on my car and of course, how much the fuel would cost!
  10. Thanks to all of you that answered, you gave some good insight. I live in Indiana, I keep hearing that LPN's are going away, due to hospitals having to live up to some new standard (?) yet when I look at hospital sites, they have listings for them. I never thought of it as more options if I were a LPN, good thought. Thanks to all of you! Any other input, I will gladly read! Thanks again, have a great day!:loveya:
  11. :confused:Could I have some professional opinions please? I am retiring from the military, I am now a 50 year old female. My plan was always to become a nurse, but life and kids and work got in the way. Now I'm either going to go thru a local Surgical Tech course and get my certification or go to LPN vocational school. Being 50, I"m not really intrested in going the RN route or working towards my BA. Looking in the local papers, there seems to be the same amount of job openings for both. You guys are out there in the profession, which job is better to you? I've been told as a LPN I will just end up working in a nursing home on night shift, I don't know if that's true. But as a surgical Tech, my job will not be hands on with patients. What are your thoughts and thanks!
