Hi, my name is Autumn, and I'm 18 years old. I am currently attending Nashville State Community College in Nashville, Tennessee to get my ADN-RN. I have already taken Psychology and English Comp. I (Summer 2012) and also A&P I, Statistics, Art Appreciation, and Speech (Fall 2012). The only other classes I am required to take to get into their nursing program is A&P II and Microbiology, but in order for my scholarship to help, I have to take at least 4 classes, so I am taking English Comp. II and Medical Ethics online. So far, my GPA is a 4.0, and I plan to keep it that way to help my chances of getting accepted into the nursing program. My main concern is that Nashville State's nursing program is only a "candidate" for becoming accredited. My advisor said they are a "state based" school and most other schools will accept my credits when I plan to continue my education to get my BSN after working a couple of years. If the process goes through, Nashville State will be accredited in April of 2015. I have already mailed my nursing application in, and if I get accepted, I will start this Fall and graduate in May of 2015. I am very anxious, but I couldn't imagine myself being anything else but a nurse! Do y'all think I should play it safe and transfer to a nursing school that's already accredited, or would I be fine at Nashville State Community College? Thank you all for your help!!

I have applied to the NSCC program for Fall 2013. Accreditation isn't as much of an issue as people are making it. I work at St. Thomas and know several of the new grads from NSCC that have been hired. We even have one on my unit in ICU. I've heard there is a really good possibility that thy will have it completed by August.

That definitely makes me feel better! I was worried about it but I have heard such good things about the program that I didn't see an issue with them receiving their accreditation.

NSCC Nursing School is not always the best investment choice. I was dismissed 5-6 weeks before graduation (after 2 years...3.1 GPA). I am now in a BSN accredited program...regretting my previous choice. Do your homework for a better informed decision before you invest in the Nashville State Community College Nursing Program. In my opinion, they will hurt your memories of nursing school rather that enhance it....not many in my class felt the administration was fair and honest:

Evidently they do not have a history of respecting their own written policy. There may be hope if the accreditation board respects its own policies and enforces it. Perhaps new certain faculty and a new NSCC academic affairs particular personnel will help. Read my story for yourself, but more importantly know that nursing school is not suppose to be a military boot as my experience was. An accredited University is a much better invested choice as I am now experiencing...professional instructors, and a solid curriculum.

i currently attend there and i think if the pre req education isnt correctly taught then their program can be harder. especially for a&p and microbiology.

Maybe it's time to get off the soap box if you're so happy at MTSU. I am a student at NSCC and love the program. It is what you make of it as with any education. I personally wouldn't want to work with a nurse whose education was just handed to them vs having to work for it.

Hi Ms Morris,

I left you a message on another post too. I can understand your frustrations being that you are already attending NSCC. Are you in the nursing program yet or are you taking the pre reqs? I took most of my pre reqs at NSCC and they all transferred to other colleges. The nursing courses do not transfer, however. It was of no fault of my own that I was wrongfully dismissed, as the appeals meeting proved. I am respectfully warning potential nursing students by sharing my experience. I think this is the best site to get the message out there.
