Accessory Navicular Syndrome

Hello! I've been dealing with painful feet due to accessory navicular syndrome my whole life, but now at 45 years old I'm really in a lot of pain most days and don't know what to do. I saw a podiatrist and did steroid injections, antiinflammatory patches and pills, wore a boot for six weeks which took the pain away in one foot, but after one day of work with it off I was back to square one. The next step would be surgery which I think requires 6-8 weeks of a boot for immobilization and a six month recovery period for each foot- that's if everything goes well. So basically I would struggle to heal for a year and I work in ICU so I don't see how I could do a scooter or anything. Has anyone ever gotten this done? My expensive custom made inserts and Brooks shoes just aren't cutting it. I'm so fed up with hurting. I was taking too much daily ibuprofen so now I don't take anything at all.

So your options are surgery or living with this painful condition the rest of your life?

What is the expected outcome of the surgery? Risks? I'm not sure what this condition is, but if you don't do it will you even be able to keep on working?  Changing job/career going on disability vs improving QOL (not just career reasons).

Accessory Navicular Syndrome

Wearing boot longer than 6 weeks may be required to reduce inflamation further.

Physical Therapist helped me tremendously with their manipulation, exercises and orthotic support when I had plantar fasciotis.    Second opinion may be in your interest.

My DH had this as a child, extra bone removed, casted for several weeks -painfre thereafter.
