Accepted first nursing job!!! Anyone?

Specializes in Ambulatory Care.

So I accepted a job as an ambulatory float pool RN and I'm wondering if anyone else does a similar job and what to expect. I was offered two new grad residencies in critical care and med surg at the same hospital but I ultimately decided to go with the schedule that worked best for our family. My shifts are 8-5 4 days per week, no weekends, holidays, or adverse weather days. So are there any other clinic RNs or float clinic RNs out there?

Not exactly sure what ambulatory float clinic nursing duties entails.

It is probably great for you. The hours are great for a family. (Actually I worked four nights a week, 11 pm to 7 am every other weekend etc, when my kids were young. Never missed a school event. Was home in the morning to see them off, was home when school got out, tucked them into bed. No hassles with all the usual appointments that come up during the week day, etc.) However I digress.

Be the best clinic nurse ever....BUT it would be hard to ever transition into acute care or other nursing positions. Maybe you could get an extra help PRN position in med/surg to keep up some acute care skills.
