Accepted Columbia University's ETP student-meet-n-greet

Published

Hi there,

Thought I would start a Columbia thread for all of us who were eagerly waiting for that acceptance letter in the mail last week. Guess you can call this the meet-n-greet and maybe wear like a sticker with our screen names so we can recognize each other during the Visiting Day (ok, might look a bit goofy) but hey, what a way to start off our nursing careers together at Columbia.

I was estactic when i opened that letter, seemed like a thin envelope and was prepared for the worst, and then read the first line! I can't wait and indeed it was a life changing letter for both me and my wife, who also got accepted!! I also got into my first choice of specialty, Nurse Anesthesia, and getting into that program without ICU experience (besides being a nursing assistant in the ER and neurosurg unit as an undergrad) is just simply overwhelming. It took the whole weekend to sink in, and now, I'm psyched! I look forward to meeting all of you and enduring the next 12 months of craziness starting in June together.

See you on Visiting Day!! :balloons:

Best,

Charlie

Once you hit the master's portion, youi have to have ALL your patient data on it, and it has to be password protected, and there's some whole thing where you send all the data to your advisor or something...I kind of wasn't paying attention during that meeting. I would email Rita Marie John, as she gave the lecture.

Hi! Me again.

I am trying to understand how to get around the prerequisite hurdle - I received notice that I cannot register for classes until they receive my transcripts - or, per Amy D - "something indicating I have passed the course" - I am taking the finals and leaving for NY on May 25. Grades will post and transcripts mail on June 12 -

I'm sure I'm not the first person in the history of this school with a timing issue. What do you suggest? Can I attend without registering? Will they take a letter from the instructor that I'm passing?

THanks gang. Again!;)

I think you can probably deal with this in orientation. I recall not registering until that week anyways. The letter wouldn't hurt to have so that when you get to orientation to expidite them releasing the hold.

WHOA! You guys are seriously starting like...........in a couple of weeks, right? So when's your official start date? Are you guys pumped? I can't imagine being in your situation right now--I'm trying to find housing in new haven and its taking forever! housing in new york must be a pain....or maybe its exciting.

Let me know the situation and good luck with everything!

Hey Bics!! It's great to hear from you!!

Yes, we are getting really close to starting!! Orientation starts on May 31st and the first actual day of classes is June 5th!!

We found an apartment just 3 blocks north of the medical center. We found it in just one day, so it really wasn't too stressful at all. The off-campus housing staff gave us names of landlords that charged no fee, so that was nice. Moving is the part that will be a pain, but we are starting to pack now so maybe it won't be too bad. We will be moving on the 21st, so we'll have a week to hang out and unpack before school starts - yippee!!

I wouldn't think it would be too hard to find something here in New Haven as there seems to be a lot available. If you have any particular places that you want me to check out for you, just let me know. I could go and take some pictures for you.

When do you guys officially start??

Is everybody ready to start in just a couple of weeks???

I can't believe it is finally time!!

hey everyone -

I was just wondering about the shoe situation- I seem to recall seeing somewhere (I think it was on the website) that on clinical days we are required to wear all white shoes and socks - eck! Can anyone confirm this? Or, any of you 2nd years - are they really strict about this policy? And where can you get comfortable all-white shoes? I was planning on getting a pair of Merrells but I have never seen them in white...well, I was just wondering. Hope someone can help!

All white shoes are a must and they are being very strict about it this coming year. Get yourself a pair of white dansko clogs. They are unbelievably comfy and easy to wipe down and clean up when they get dirty.

Is there a store nearby the hospital that sells the dansko clogs?

KrystellMarie, I am so excited for you! PM me when you get a minute and let me know how it's goin'!

There is a place on 181 between Fort Wash & Bennet that sells them. It's a comfort shoe store. You can also order them online at zappos.
