Accelerated OU students

Hi all, I have been debating lately on whether or not I should try to get into the accelerated BSN program at OU. I have already been accepted to the traditional program for January 08 but I keep thinking about the long four years it will take me to get through the program. So my question to all of you that have been accepted to the accelerated program at OU is how difficult was it to get in? I feel that my gpa is competitive, but I am really concerned about the interview and the 500 word written goal statement. Any insight is appreciated!

I just finished the ACC program at OU. If it were my first degree ever, I would have quit. Life was miserable at least 65% of the time. Claustrophobic with only 39 faces and everyone sleep deprived and stressed. If you have children or a spouse who demand your attention you will struggle even harder. If you keep your mouth shut, keep putting one foot in front of the other, you will make it in one year instead of 4. You will not learn as much as you would in 4 years because it really doesn't allow you to do internships in the summers, or do much outside experience since your head lives in books.

It is doable - I posted an accelerated website alltsonm.tripod.com to vent all my experiences and advice...

To get through you must network with classmates to share study tips and more

my humble opinion

Yay, welcome!!!! I'm glad you're here. By the way, the website that they linked you to is a wonderful resource! I haven't started the program yet, but the site linked above has helped me have direction and focus this summer in helping me prepare:).

Again, welcome!:welcome:

I too just completed the accelerated program. It's all consuming, so stress management is important. Working any more than on a very part time basis is not recommended, unless you can get paid to study and write papers. I did work a little as a nurse tech the last 2 semesters. Being done in one year is the great benefit. Given my reception by RN's during my preceptorship, I think the program prepares one well to be a nurse. It's an 'E ticket' ride, but worth it!

I have another question about the program, many of the courses I have taken but they don't transfer exactly, that being the reason I have to retake them, do any of you know if you are repeating a course will they add your grades together and average them to get your final grade, for example if you got a C the first time and you got an A the second time your final grade would be a B, or do they take the most recent grade and count that....also is there an exam that must be taken before entering the program....and finally what is the average gpa of those being accepted into the program...thank you.

i'm just curious, do any of you live on campus apartment? is it very expensive? i'm thinking about doing rn to bsn program and its nice if i live close to campus and have a roommate who is also studying nursing :nurse:;):biere::crash_com:icon_hug::caduceus::mortarboard::studyowl:

I think they take your most recent grade and don't average. There is no exam to enter the program at this time but you do have to write a goal statement and have an interview (some of my classmates didn't do the interview. I did. So I'm not sure what they go by to determine if you intrview or not.) Average gpa. Hmmmmm. Not sure on this one. They have a minimum gpa to enter the program. So far they haven't been ranking people based on gpa because they have been able to get everyone in (they run 3 excel. pgms a year). We have a lot of high gpa'ers in the program but I think some are just at the minimum gpa so I would say if you have the minimum they ask for then you are ok. They do fill up and some people have to wait for the next pgm so I would apply asap. For instance, if you wanted to get into the next program which starts this sept I think it is full so you might have to wait until the one that starts next Jan or next May. You really need to go to their info meetings and talk to them and then just apply. I did not think I would get in the session I am in and was actually looking forward to having 4 months off of "only" working (as apposed to working and doing pre-reqs) but to my surprise I got in. So here I am, 2.5 months into the program. Really, attend one of their info sessions. I actually attended more then one because I went really early and didn't even know what to ask in the beginning. They are super nice. Let me know if you have more questions.

Another question for the applicants to this program. Was this the only school that you applied to or did you apply to other colleges?

I applied to 2 and was in the process of applying to a third when I got accepted. Apply to all that you would be able to go to based on pre-reqs you need, distance to travel, GPA, financial aid, etc. Then take the best deal for you. Many students apply to > 1.
