Accelerated Online BSN in CA??

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi,

I have a bachelors in Communications. I am 33, and after I had my baby, I got laid off from my corporate job. I won't go back to that world, and now that I have a family, I need a flexible schedule, and I need to bring in an income. I really want to be a nurse. I know it will be a long path. I have a 13 month old and I am pregnant with #2, so the best bet is to do this online.

I have combed the web for online Accelerated BSN courses, and I don't see any in CA. If I want to take an online program, do I have to move? How does that work? Has anyone done it that lives in CA. Any and all advice would be great.

Also, it looks like every school has a slightly different set of prereq's. Is that true, or is there a standardized sheet?

Thanks!

If you have no previous nursing education, there is no fully online nursing program that you can do. Part of nursing school is the clinical, where you practice your skills in a hospital under the supervision of an instructor.

There may be a blended option. These would have classes online and you attend clinicals in person, but I have no idea if that is available in your area.

Check out local universities to see if they have an online option for their regular BSN or accelerated BSN (for people with a bachelor's degree). They would do their clinicals in a local hospital.

Western Governors University offers BSN online , you can do your prereqs online too , but clinical portion must be hands-on

Western Governors University has online nursing classes. The school does clinicals at specific hospitals. Clinicals are 12 hour shifts done over a 2 - 3 week period every few months for each section you study. It takes about 2.5 years to complete the program. If you want an "accelerated" program bridging you from a bachelors in a nonnursing major, I think APU and Western University have programs that are quicker, but are classroom setting so are less flexible. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. From my research the BSN accelerated programs online can be done in 1 year, and you do your clinical portion at the University, but I just can't seem to find this option in CA. Let me know if anyone has any more suggestions, or knows of a University that allows a blend in CA. Thanks.
