Accelerated Nursing Program NYU vs PACE vs Concordia vs College Mount Saint Vincent

Published

Hello I'm new to the forum

I would like to hear from anyone who's attending, attended or knows anyone that has attended the accelerated or regular nursing program at NYU, PACE, Monroe, Concordia or College of Mount Saint Vincent. Please provide your feedback on the program, school, faculty etc. I graduate this May and I have been accepted to Concordia and College of Mount Saint Vincent accelerated nursing program for this Fall 2014 (YAAAAY!!) but I have no idea which school to choose, I applied to all the schools above (waiting for letters from pace, nyu and monroe), financial wise Monroe would be cheapest I think it's 24K but their program is new so I don't know much about it, College of Mount Saint Vincent is the second cheapest at $45000 flat, Concordia is 60-70K and NYU and Pace should be around the same (60-70K) or more ..Money is definitely an issue but I also don't want to be in a school where professors don't teach and I don't learn, I rather pay the money one time and get good education and a great faculty.

I really don't know much about any of these schools apart from what's on their website (& everyone makes their school looks good online) so I'm asking please please if you know anything about these schools, attended or is attending please share your store, i'll really appreciate it :)

Ps: If you know of any scholarships or grants for accelerated nursing programs, please do tell

Hello!

I'm new to the forum as well, and your post caught my eye. I actually attended CMSV for about a year and a half. I was enrolled in the nursing program, and only took 2 of the entry level courses before I left. The lack of organization, support, compassion and SECURITY at this school is absolutely horrendous! When I was a senior in high school, I was accepted to Pace, MSV, LIU, among others. I chose MSV, because I was offered a HUGE scholarship. (THAT'S THE CATCH). I dormed there, and it was something else. There is a huge drug issue there...I did not really feel a professional environment. Nevertheless, I found a group of people that I could hang out and study with, and we just stayed away from the filth. During my second semester at the school, we were notified by the nursing department that we would not be able to be enrolled in the clinicals on time, due to a clerical error. Half of us, including myself, were not given courses that were in line with the curriculum, and therefore, behind. They told us to take the second part of chemistry during the summer, and that we would have to pay for it out of pocket. I don't see why we should have to pay for someone else's mistakes. Most of us refused, and took chem II in the fall. This meant that we were taking organic chem with a & p I. PREPOSTEROUS! Most of us got C's in chem, and were planning to retake the course. I was taking Spreadsheet during the winter, and a week before the spring semester started, I received an email saying that I was dismissed from the nursing program, and should select another major. I was so depressed. During orientation, dismissal was NEVER emphasized. We were all just prepared to retake the course, and be in line with the curriculum guidelines. Ultimately, I transferred, and only had a few days to find a new school. Fortunately, I found a school with rolling admissions. I had a lot of credits from high school, so I was able to graduate early from my school, LIU. I received a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, just last month. I just got accepted to NYU's accelerated program. Now that I reflect on the past two years, I know leaving MSV was for the absolute best. I'm really happy with what I've been able to accomplish. I was happy to be in an environment with people who actually cared. Half of the nursing department at MSV is so stuck up, and they DO NOT HELP! I can count on ONE HAND the amount of good professors I had at MSV, especially within the nursing department. They only care about the money and the sports teams. I'm still waiting on some more acceptances, but I'm really thrilled about NYU. I've heard a lot about Concordia and Pace, and the people I have spoken with, they are phenomenal programs. I would not advise you to go to MSV. My advisor was rude and constantly made me feel as if I was incompetent. It was as if being a student and being unaware of information was a sin or a crime. Questions were looked down upon; they expected you to know everything. The staff is unapproachable, and into themselves, that the school feels more like a political arena, or feuding staff members within a workforce. Some of the staff that conducted our freshmen nursing orientation, who were pretty much the highlight of the nursing department, left the school by the time our second year began. There were a lot of departmental issues, and with Cruella as the new chairperson right before I left, things got even worse. Also, if you are not Filipino, the school barely sees you. I'm not trying to scare you, but this was my experience. I hope this helps:)

Also the school has a severe mold problem, specifically in the dorms and the library. They try to cover it up all the time. They raise tuition all the time, and yet don't fix the issues. The buildings are worn down. This place is a health and safety hazard. There was a sewage line that burst in the library, and the school still had an open house IN THE LIBRARY, with the same carpet, furniture and books. The place wreaked, and when we complained, they started opening windows, and placing various fragrances around the library. They carpet was still wet with sewage....The school is irresponsible, incompetent and inconsiderate! Check this link out to find out what other students think. You'll see that a lot of the statements are repeated. The College of Mount Saint Vincent (StudentsReview) - Comments, Reviews and Advice, Student Life at The College of Mount Saint Vincent

The financial aid department is sent from hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the students are immature, jerks, ghetto, loud, vulgar, criminals...the staff......rude isn't even the word!!

@RockyTheRocket

OMG!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to share your experience, that was plain horrible!! ..I've already chosen to attend another school but I'm super happy you wrote this so now I know I definitely made the right choice in not going there!!! Thanks so much!

PS: I'm not sure if you're going to choose nyu but I'd like to return the favor and tell you becareful if you choose to go there, A former student that was in the nursing program wrote me in private message and shared their horrific experience there and advise me under no circumstance should I go their, her response was longer than yours outlying how horrible the nursing program is there, just thought id let you know, once again thanks a lot! :)

Good for you!!!

And thanks so much for the heads up!! I appreciate it!! I wish you the best!

@RockyTheRocket

No Problem and Thank you, Best wishes to you also :)

I am a recent graduate of concordia's nursing program. It was about 10k a semester for just over 40k for the program. It was an amazing program on a beautiful campus in bronxville. The instructors truly care about the students and the clinical placements are great. I actually had an unplanned, but wonderful, pregnancy during the program. They went above and beyond for me and I graduated on time... I gave birth in October and most students did their preceptorship in November. The dean allowed me to graduate and complete my preceptorship in January. Every program has its faults, so I'm sure there are certain things people will complain about, but if you want a school where you are not just a number choose concordia.

@colleen2515

Thats where I've chosen to go.. Happy to know I made the right decision :) I can't wait to start , also, how did you find the program itself? Do you feel as though the program prepared you for the NCLEX or did you need outside help? And did you attend school on Saturdays?

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and congratulations on your baby!!!

I found the program searching online and through allnurses. The program prepared me well for nclex. We all took Kaplan in January, and those practice questions really helped. You will get what you put into it. Study a lot all the way through and you will do fine. invest in an nclex book now, and i used med-surg success and pharm-success question books. It will take the whole program to get comfortable with the style of questioning. Though they do ease you into it. They mean what they say about owning you with scheduling, they will schedule clinicals where they can get a day... This means Saturday if they have to. Most people never had to do a Saturday. I was one of five that had to. Although in the very beginning, first 6 weeks there was an occasional Saturday lab.

The pharm teacher will scare you and you will think the first test is going to have so much info on it, but it really wasn't so bad. Message me when you are studying for it and I will give you some pointers how best to prepare.

@colleen2515

thanks so much for all your advise, and I'll definitely message you, look out for it in the fall :)
