Accelerated BSN?

Is it the same as a four-year BSN? What is the fine print? Can I still do everything I want to do (pursue a Masters)? Go or no go?

Thank you :D

Im doing an accelerate BSN program because I already have a bach degree, so I only have to take the nursing courses. You can still pursue a masters degree and from what i've heard there are BSN programs that will take you directly into a masters level, so you kind of combine the two but I don't know that much about those programs, you'd have to google, good luck!

GO! An accel BSN isn't "the same" as a 4 year BSN. If you already have a prior degree (I think this is a prerequisite for most accel programs), you won't have to take all those fun general education classes again. No basic math/english/whatnot. Once you get your nursing prereqs out of the way (classes like anatomy & physiology, psychology, pharmacology, microbiology, pathophysiology,...), you'll just be taking mainly nursing classes.

The accel route prepares you for an entry level position in nursing, just like the regular 4 year BSN program. Some accel programs have less clinical hours than the standard program, but you'd still get plenty of clinical time.

The pace of accel programs is definitely accelerated - like drinking from a fire hose. Organization, self motivation, the ability to do three things at once, and a love of banging your head against the nearest brick wall while screaming :banghead:"WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF?!?!":banghead: are useful skills to possess if you're thinking about doing the accel program.

Going through an accel BSN program will certainly prepare you for Masters work. Some accel programs incorporate some Masters level classes in their program (mine did). This can be handy - you graduate with your BSN, along with 6-8 graduate level credits.
