Accelerated BSN Programs in Texas?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi, guys! I'm a newbie to this site, and I wanted to get your input on accelerated BSN programs in Texas. I live in the DFW area, and I hold a Finance degree from Texas A&M. I've recently decided to try my hand at nursing school, and I need three prereqs to get into RN school--A&P I, II, and Micro. (I start my A&P I on Tuesday!) I was plunking around on the site and saw that some nurses were talking about the fact that they had done an accelerated BSN 12-month program geared toward people with non-nursing degrees. Does anyone know if there are any nursing schools in the area that offer such a program? I checked UTA, and they don't seem to have it.

Not sure if this will help you or not, but a couple of the posts on here need to be cleared up.

1. The Texas Tech 2nd Degree accelerated program is geared toward those with non-nursing degrees, the didactic portion (book work, "classroom") is done online. The clinicals and simulations are obviously done in person.

2. Regardless of the any school, any program, anywhere, classes do not gain merit or recognition simply because they are in a classroom or online. Their merit is determined by the schools accreditation status, either regional or national. Contrary to what one might think, regional is the higher of the two levels. For example, I could take an online course through ITT, which is nationally accredited and it will most likely not transfer or "count" in my future educational goals. However, I could easily take a similar course at, say, Texas Tech University, all online, and since TTU is regionally accredited it will most likely transfer. Other factors when considering if a class will transfer is course description and syllabus. Rarely does it matter, nowadays, if it is in a classroom or online.

Sorry for the winded response, I have done much research in these areas and have worked for a nationally accredited school in the past.
