accelerated bsn program with few pre-reqs required, and no previous bsn

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone happens to know of an Accelerated BSN program that does not require a previous bsn degree, and does not have a wait list?? I know I am asking for alot, however I know there has to be one out there :). I am willing to move anywhere. I have been calling state to state and am still not having much luck :(. I have completed Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, and Lifespan Development. I also scored an 80% on my TEAS exam. The schools I have come across either require a previous bsn or more pre-reqs like public speaking or Statistics. I know I might just need to bite the bullet and take those classes, however I feel there has got to be a private or public school out there that will accept me for what I have. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you all!! :)

I think most of them require stats and public speaking. We're using stats now in my research class. I'm in an LPN/BSN bridge.

I know im starting to see this.....I am going to register to take them in the spring just in case. Thank you! :)

If you are strongly thinking about that school, you need to make a decision soon. I think I saw that their Fall semester deadline is in January.

Great...thank you so much for all your help! I will be taking stats in the spring and then I will apply! I appreciate all your help! :)

Hi am not sure where you are located however, you can look up chamberlain college of nursing though it's pricey however it's accelerated, accredited and about 4 locations or more in the U.S area. They accepted all of my credits from another institution and I begin with nursing courses. They make their decisions within 1-2 months but you will have to submit official transcripts of all institutions attended and take the Hesi A2 test but speak with someone in their admissions and compare with other schools you have in mind. You can check out their website too which is chamberlain.edu and see things for yourself. Hope this helps

Specializes in School Nursing.

You might try TCU in Fort Worth, TX. The website does not say it, but I know they did admit a student without a bachelor's but significant work towards one. I seem to remember they had less pre reqs than other schools I looked at.

Oh wow! I will go anywehere lol! I will check out there website. Thank you for this great information! Do you know if they required stats, or public speaking by chance? Im sure it will tell me on there website but just in case it doesnt. :)

Just for the record, many 'traditional' (that is non-accelerated) BSN programs are just two years in length, not accepting students until 'junior' year after they have finished all pre-reqs and gen ed coursework. I think some accelerated programs are as long as 16 months (non-stop) while some traditional programs are definitely as short as 22 months (start in Sept year one, finish in June year two, and no mandatoary summer coursework).

Thank you!!! I called them and left a message....waiting to hear back :).

Thank you for this information! :)

I was just accepted into a 2nd degree Accelerated BSN program and this program required a prev. bachelors degree. My prev. degree was Bachelors of Science in Psychology. They based acceptance on the highest GPA and an essay on why you want to be a nurse. When calculating GPA they looked at the whole 4 years or last 60 hours.., whichever brought the highest GPA for that person. It is very competitive. I still had to go back to my prev. jr. college where I got my associates degree and pick up my organic biochem and my anatomy classes. Thank goodness I had already had the other pre reqs required! Im extremely nervous about what the 13 months program will be like.

Try Stratford university in virginia. They require stats but not for entrance into the program...

The University of Texas at Arlington has an Accelerated BSN program. It doesn't require you to have a bachelors going in, but you do have to complete pre-reqs at an accelerated pace. There are general requirements such as math, history, government, English, writing, etc. You have to take the HESI too vs. the TEAVs. Because it is accelerated, you could complete the pre-reqs quickly! You can look it up...they are a popular nursing school in Texas. Although, it is extremely competitive!

I think most bachelor's degrees require stats and public speaking. I'd be wary of any school meeting your criteria. If you do find one, make sure they are properly accredited!
