accelerated bsn program at njcu in jersey city, nj

Does anybody attend the Accelerated BSN program in NJCU? If so what is the cost of the program? How competative is it to get in? Will they accept you if your overall GPA is lower than a 3.0 but you have a very high GPA in your prerequisites? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

if anyone needs books for the september semester please email me @ [email protected] and I'll sell you discounted books.

Any books left??

I am not sure if this is the right thread but I am a career changer looking at the fast track BSN at NjCu. I have a 3.5 undergrad gpa and have a few prereqs to complete this spring and summer. I am taking the HESI in January and am submitting the application in April or so. Does anyone know if I am trying to apply too soon or if I am doing this too fast?? If I need to start school in September 2011 there is no way I can wait until the following year.

Hi Kampenny:

I believe you can apply and mention that you are in the process of taking the remaining pre-reqs. i just finished my first semester at the JC campus, and I can safely say that the hardest part is getting in. There are tough periods especially during the first 6 weeks of the program, but it can definately be done. Make sure your essay and resume are strong. Do well on the hesi. Your GPA was slighly higher than mine. Once your in, the professors and students support each other. Again, make a good impression and make sure they have NO reason to not accept you.

Hi Captaincrunch,

Thanks for your reply. I checked out the application materials and it says that you must submit proof of enrollment in the outstanding prereq classes, which is pretty easy to do since I can just print my schedule for my 2 remaining summer classes and include it with the app. My resume is strong - I've been working in med device marketing for several years and have a pretty impressive position with the company I am at now. I am hoping my accomplishments thus far will help to set me apart since I am more mature and have good work experience, as opposed to my younger counterparts.

Was the HESI exam hard? I have the practice book they recommend on the website, and I have been studying out of current textbooks I have as well. How else should I study? Can you take the HESI more than once? I am worried about this test..If you don't mind me asking, what was your score on the HESI?

Also one last thing, can I take the HESI exam BEFORE submitting my application to NJCU?

Many thanks.

The hesi was not too hard. The bio gave me the most trouble and the study guide was not helpful for bio part.

I got 85 total first and only time taking it

Do not stress it , your resume appears strong

I made sure I acted humble yet confident when communicating with Samantha Younker via email and phone. Just don't sound too eager or overly excited too get in as some were turned down because of this

They look at the person as a whole not just their scores

Finally call and see if they have a second open house day.

They discussed more tips for the application process and the professors were available to meet

Good luck

Yes you can take the hesi before applying

Also the physics section is not required by NJCU

Thanks for your help. I get worried about the HESI since I haven't completed the prereqs yet. I am in progress of completing them and am studying for the HESI already. If I take the HESI before NJCU has my application, what does the testing company do with my scores? Are sent automatically to NJCU? Do they come to me?

How many people are in the Accel BSN program in your class? Is the campus very urban? Is the area around campus safe?

Lastly what does your schedule look like for a given week?

Many thanks!

hey guys,

I got into Christ hospital school of nursing, and bayonne medical center. Can anyone give some information on either school? If they are good or bad, which is better? Please

Thanks!

I graduated CHSON in June of this year. It is an excellent school. In 2009 they were given a "school of excellence" award by the NLN. Its hard...really hard but everyone passed the NCLEX on the first try from our class. I was able to work full time and go to school in the evenings for the 1st 3 semesters but took the last one off from work as I didnt want to take any chances of not passing. I passed by 0.2% - but I passed. Go for it - I loved it. Good luck!

to everyone who ever applied to accelerated program:

i'm getting baccalaureate degree in psychology and then i would like to apply to nursing accelerated program.

as i started checking what prerequisite courses colleges require to get into this program i see that some of the couses are similar(like anatomy and physiology, microbiology, statistics) but many courses are completely different.

with such variety of different prerequisite courses in different colleges how can you be ready to apply to several of them?

thank you very much.

i would love to hear from the people in the beginning of this thread. the ones who were accepted into NJCU accelerated program in 2008-9, etc and where they are now and if they liked the program, etc.

thanks!
